Poor old George

Post by slick4x4 »

My 61 has been really neglected last couple years
I bought it back in 2007 ….
That was a tough year on me
I lost my dad & one of my older best friends that summer
I got thru it keeping busy farming
But when farming calmed down for the winter
Started really getting depressed …..
Dr put me on antidepressants
The first night I slept about an hour & half
The second night I was on eBay
Found “George” and put a crazy bid on it
Next day I was like … no more of those dam pills !
I realized I was depressed .. but I had a reason to be
No use in taking a pill for it
When the bidding ended … I ended up with the truck
Stumbled onto a Slick60 site … and joined
Lot of guys on here & I didn’t know what to think of them
They kept talking about “SlickStock”
Found out it was in Kansas City…
Not to bad a drive … even at 55 mph
There were people from Canada , Alaska , east & west coast
And even a couple from Australia
Pretty friendly group & they adopted me
I said they were friendly .. not good judges of character
Any way… George went back in the shop today
Needs some stuff to get it back up in shape
But I hope to drive it to SlickStock in 2023
Apparently it’s in Salina Kansas
A short drive from my place
Who knows what hijinks will happen
Truck fairies & corn bats have shown up before
Anyway … here’s what George looks like now
Kinda sad …. But he will shine again

Good times abound whether you have your slick there or not. Rest up before you come and you can stay up and be a 2nd shifter.lol

Peter packrat had a under the hood surprise for me
I popped the hood about 3 months ago & it was ok
Glad I got it in the shop… no chewed wires that I can see

Oh there have been full moons (plural) and Zeppelin crashes and midnight phone and video calls and drinks gushing from places they ain't supposed to gush from.

and sadness over those no longer with us.
But generally lots of smiles, and laughs and a good time had by all, really.
I would highly recommend it, especially if you are depressed, we got the cure for that sh!t
only missed 2, don't plan on missing the next one :)

to quote Bill Sinclair at Slickstock 2
"I have smiled so much i was afraid my cheeks would rip"
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

That is quite an accomplishment for three months of packrat work!! Glad to see you are getting busy with George. Very nice looking truck. Shouldn't take too much to get him to SS. One of these days I'll make it out there

Pulled the metal plate the previous owner welded to the bed
Over the wood floor
My 12 year old nephew has been helping me one day a week
I want him to learn mechanical things
I told him “some jobs will be fun , some will not”
The first time he ran a torch , he was pretty timid
But he is getting the hang of things
He has a desire to fix & build

Pat: Did Peter the Packrat have access to large quantities of Red Bull?? That's the only explanation I can come up on how he filled your entire engine bay with schtuff in such a short amount of time.....

Those packrats can make quite a nest
in a short amount of time ….
Plus he had access to an excessive amount
Of material just a short distance away
Actually it never really had much of a “nest” built
Just a stockpile of leaves & soybean seed
No pee or feces hardly at all
Maybe a cat or dog got him before he settled in

I too was "out of sorts" till some crazy slickster (GregD) stopped by the shop I was working at and went "crazy" over my truck that I about lost interest in. He told me about Slick 60s and about Slick Stock. I never could of imagined who I have met through the time I've been on here. You guys have reignited my flame for these trucks. Now I'm happy to pass this slickness down to my daughter Avery and hopefully to Daxton.

I hope to get down soon enough to visit the "Slick Farm" and see if there are any deals left there. Can't wait to see all of you guys there.

This is my great-nephew , Parker
He has been coming out on saturdays & helps me do stuff
I told him he will learn all sorts of things
He is just 13 , but definitely has a desire to learn
We got the wood done in the floor today
Many things left on the list ….
But come hill or high water
It will be in Salina at SlickStock

Well we attempted to start the sleeping engine ....
Hadn't been ran in several years
I dumped 2 gallons of fresh gasoline , mixed with
Marvel mystery oil into the half tank of vintage gas
(Old gas will stick a valve, so lubricant is a precaution)
Took the fuel line off at the carb & blew some thru
Getting rid of the ancient stuff in the lines ...
Cranked it over with a new battery....
Kinda made a weird thumpa thumpa sound cranking
Thought maybe a packrat had made a nest in the clutch
Finally started... after about 4-5 seconds
Sounded pretty good ....
we shut it off... went behind the truck , and my nephew said
"Where did all these soybeans come from ?"
Apparently out of the exhuast system ....
I've heard of mice getting inside of exhuast
And going all the way into a piston
Thru An open exhuast valve .....
I'm wondering if that what the thumping sound was...
