it all has to do with weight and emission.Ford first brought out the f150 to beat the govt. mpg/emissions issue back in the 1970s.trucks over a certain weight were exempt, the f100 was not so the f150 was a beefed up version pushing the GVWR into the exempt range. chevy came out with their "heavy half" at around the same time.as trucks became more popular the f150 was outselling the f100 , especially in areas that required emissions testing as the
GVWR put it above the weight cap of passenger cars and small trucks.with the introduction of the small and eventually midsize trucks there was less reason to have an F100, an F150, 250, 350 so they quit making the f100.

1980-82 should be the last year of the F-100 that had the car light duty bolt patterns

Indeed it WOULD be cool. but instead of doing that , or slapping the diesel in the ranger that they sell everywhere else in the world, including OZ land, Ford keep talking of killing the Ranger and not replacing it at all.

Why re-badge the Ranger as F100 with a diesel? it would be a runaway bestseller in north America.. can't do something smart like that.. this is Ford we are talking about...

i think Ford would do it if they could.its the oil companies and the govts. putting the kill on it. it would be a big seller without a doubt.

:( That all sounds like what was going on here with the falcon ute V holden 1 ton tabletop. Ford were getting flogged by holden because everyone wanted a tabletop with drop sides,Ford only had rebadged mazdas in that form due to some deal with the japs. That was until about 1998 when ford wokeup and produced a table top or disconnecto ute, they then topped sales for ages, they now come with the Boss 260 V8  not bad puppies for a work ute but but but its still not a F100!

Alan, Ford basically owns Mazda. Mazda trucks since 1994 here are Ford Rangers with different box sides and different grills. I heard once they built right next to the Ranger in the same factory. I had a 1998 Mazda B 2500, same truck as a Ranger.

Doug said; Why did they stop making the F-1??

Doug,I dont think they did they just came up with a different name and it wasnt till 1961 they perfected the shape.I had a 49 F1 so I feel I can say that from 48 to say 56 they looked front heavy with too much front over hang and the front guards looked too wide for the cab, but Im probably going to cop it for saying it but neener.gif :arse: .

Not from the originator of the club you won't Foodstick to;d me at Slickstock ! he always hated the fat fenders, that's why he started this club, so we didn't have to hang arounf with them LOL

I personally don't mind the FF's. Just go into revulsions when I see the bow tie motor.

I love rangers and it would be a juge mistake to kill the only true min truck left in the market. All the other minis have put on too much weight. Look at the Canyon/Colorado/Tacoma/Raider...All way to big from their 80's and 90's roots. I would love a small ranger with a 4 cyl diesel that got 30 plus miles per gallon and had some retro f100 styling cues!

We`ve got two 07 rangers with the diesel there only 6 weeks old at the moment to soon to judge, but are quite nippy.the seating I think lets them down a bit and the front over hang is a tad long, but otherwise good.

Yah, it's all about marketing F1, F100, F150, just a new name. The next big thing will probably be an F1000!!! Always something to snare the buyer!!
