Has anyone here ever took the battery out of their 66 F100 stock location under the hood and put it in the bed? I want to clean the engine compartment up and get rid of the starter solenoid, MSD boxes and the battery. If so then what exactly did you need (materials) to finish the job and how much wire for the batteries did you need, etc. Also any ideas on a location for the starter solenoid to get it out of the way and hidden?
Thanks for any info!
Relocating battery?
I moved mine to the rear of the bed, but ai still have my starter solenoid in the engine compartment. I actually moved it to the fire wall on the passneger side of the engine. I am still contemplating on were to put the ignition box. So it is still mounted on the driver side inner fender well. I am sure if i wanted to go through all the trouble I could move it to the glove compartment or ont he firewalll inside the truck somewere. Just not done it:). Oh as far as moving the battery. I went to a welding supply shop and bought several feet of welding wire. size No. 2 or 0. And made all my ends. Hope this helps.

So do you still have the negative wire to the engine block or what did you do there? I just dont like all the wires on the passenger inner fender and firewall and want to clean the passenger inner fender up now because it holds the MSD ignition box, timing control box, battery, wires, starter solenoid, etc. Looks like a rats nest.
If I am remembering correctly, a newer member, with a Merc relocated his battery to the frame rail.
Just a thought but find a 90's or newer deisel ford van. It will have one or two batteries mounted on the frame and could be a good donor for a bracket.
If it's a "dry weather only" truck I don't know why you couldn't put the solenoid on the frame rail also but wouldn't do that on a daily driver.
What engine do you have???? I don't believe I can but I bet someone can tell you if a mini starter (no solenoid needed) is avalible for your engine

I have a 1969 351W in the truck now with a C4 transmission.
Under the frame rail would be nice and hidden, great idea... I remember a 56 (maybe a 55, it's been a while) that we did for a customer and we put the batter near the tail pan in the rear under the frame. Looked nice but was a pain in the ass to jump start or change the battery when needed.

Sounds good. Any idea how many feet it may take to run it to the front of the bed? Speedway Motors sells braided battery cables up to about 65" long and then 18' of plain red cable. The braided would look nice ran across the chassis with clips and would help keep the lining on the wire protected since it's cased in the braided hose.
