The place to talk Slicks. All we ask is that discussion has something to do with slicks...

Backfire when accelerating from 40mph to highway speed

Post by leftside11 »

Hi all,

Slick is choking when I attempt to get up to highway speed. Where should I start to look for the problem?

Also what type gasoline are you using to filler up?

What weight motor oil is recommended for the upcoming summer?

Thanks in advance

Check your power valve & accl. pump on the carb. 10W40 motor oil. Standard rebuild engine regular gas works a hotter engine use premium gas.

What motor and trans do you have?
1. Points and dwell
2. timing
3. Carb
4 Fuel filter
Gas could depend on your motor, I would think reqular would be fine
Oil could depend on your location, I live in Maryland and run 10w 40 all year.
Hope this helps some.

take the vacuum advance hose off the carb and suck on it, if you get a mouth full of stinky air you got a bad advance... that sounds like a likely culprit.

if you dont get a mouth full of stink air, still pop the dizzy and check that the advance moves the breaker plate when you suck. it might be stuck.
