Truck died

Post by leftside11 »

hello all,

i went to start the truck this morning to actually bring her into my local mechanic (too little time and knowledge to do certain things myself) because it has been knocking and it was completely dead.

battery had a slight charge - 7v and i tried jumping - lights don't even go on with cables attached. no lights on alt and certainly no start.

really don't want to pay to have it towed if i can get her started myself.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

lefty

first thing you need to do is clean the battery cables. pop them off and use a knife type scraper to make them shiny. You could possibly have a dead cell in battery. If it will not jump and battery is dead thats the best bet.

Usually a negative cable to battery issue could give you same results

do you have a batt charger? clean cables and try to jump or charge. Is there water/acid in battery?

do you have another battery to try?

where and how are you measuring the volts in battery?

If no lights with jump, then check your ground first. Are the terminals all corroded up. May need to clean them, as well.

Just had the same problem. It was a dead cell in battery. Charged up my spare and it stared right up.

7v is not enough to do anything with.

charge the battery and clean all the connections while you are waiting.
