My Slick,,,,,Finally.

Post by BMJ's 65 »

Now that I have a handle on the picture situation, I can get my Slick up here. The first couple pics are from the year after I bought her from Grandpa at the ripe age of 16. I spent close to a week rubbing out the paint. The line from the rear step bumper wouldn't come out. I took off the factory grill guard and the front bumper but left the Western Junior(?) mirrors in place. I don't have the parts anymore, but I have the dealers books that list the options available that Grandpa ordered. Unfortunately, I don't have many pictures after I put the new front clip on it or after I rebuilt the engine. Like I said before, I let the truck go due to lack of funds and a need to party. The last pictures are of me and my VERY helpfull friends pulling the broken down pieces of her out of a hog shed. The guy that ended up with my truck heard that it was my Grandpas to start out with and gave it back to me as long as I hauled everything away.

I have a ton of work to do if I ever wanted my slick on the road again, but even if I never get it done, or started for that matter, at least I have Grandpas truck back!

Glad you got it back, ya cant beat the price. Its not in bad shape for how it was stored. Look on the bright side, its already been taken apart, all you got to do is restore.

Decide what engine and driveline you want. Go find a 70's era f100 or f150 that has that, as well we as power steering, brakes. Rest of the 70's truck can be rusted away. Just make sure it was never wrecked.

Seriously, you have an opportunity here. A bunch of stuff is gone from the orignal truck. Make up a master plan to incorporate your granddads cab and whatever parts are good from the original.

Read up on a later frame swap.

Just thinking out loud. Sometimes I wish I had taken that approach.....

Planned/considered upgrades:
Perhaps power brakes, 300 I6 motor and JUST maybe, AC!

I've got a head start on some of the work that needs done. I've got a 390 with a C6 in the Bump and I have a 429 with a C6 in the garage. I'm going to go with the FE for this because the truck had a 352 when it started life, plus, I like the look of a well done FE. The guy that tore the truck down actually started a few upgrades. He converted the front to disk and replaced all of the bushings and kingpins. I'm not sure what power steering box he added, but it is hung as well. I need a 9 inch for the rear. It had a Dana in it, but it had been broken and repaired in the 70's and I did my best to ruin it in the 90's. Right now, it is stored at my Aunt's farm. With any luck, I'll have the frame home this fall and be able to work on it all winter. :) Thanks for the encouraging words!!

I know it will be well worth the blood, sweat, and beers to drive your Grandpa's truck again.
