'64 & earlier disc brake kit.
I haven't searched too far to see if anyone else has posted this kit available, but I thought I'd pass it on just in case.
A friend brought me his new Speedway Motors catalog today. Apparently, they have a kit available to bolt disc brakes onto a stock single I-beam front end! Maybe this same kit is available somewhere else too?
Anyhoo, here's the LINK, and at $280, it sounds like a decent price.

The two long 3/8ths bolts in the picture hold that fitz all GM Caliper to the qwik welded caliper bracket that bolts onto the backing plate holes of the 57-64 style spindle.
I think I like my Forged Steel Caliper Brackets that fasten to the spindle at the steering knuckle where those 1/2" case hardened bolts go and the Fail Safe lock pin system that retains the calipers, and the way calipers float on their bracket, not long skinny bolts . . . but what the #$%$ do I know.

Change is the Only Constant
Well, if you want it put in perspectives, that caliper is actually held on with the same bolt holes the held on the original brake backing plate. If that particular mounting system is not strong enough then why in the world would Ford have used it originally? Many Ford disc brakes have actually been held on with less. The reason many of the car and trucks brakes have big bolts is because they only have two where many aftermarket and some stock disc brakes use smaller bolts but have more of them. Four 3/8 bolts are stronger than two 1/2 bolts. Most high end brakes on race cars or specialty cars are mounted just like this kit. Ford mounted the calipers the way they did because it was cheaper, not because it was stronger. As a matter of fact, 67 and older Ford car disc brakes mounted just like this kit but it was more expensive so they changed to what we have now. That kit is likely capable of stopping significantly more mass than the vehicle could ever move. Hawkrod

I can say one thing our kits are more expensive, BUT You also get the hoses, proportional valve & master cylinder & if you have a ? we will have a answer since we deal in trucks unlike some of places that deal in every thing & would not know a truck from a escort, like LMC & Said time after time in their book is says don't call us if you have a Tech ? since we have nobody here to answer ?'s SORRY & looook closely on how they word things & one more hint MFG. Went up on the Alumimum Molding due to the fact that was tired of LMC buying at dealer price & then marking it up another 40% over their list price so now everybody is paying for that deal, so next time you want molding & cry about the price, Thank LMC for jacking the price UP, & I can go on & on on some of LMC Little tricks, If I was building a truck & saw this LMC, Would be off my list & pretty for prices like that & also do it on all of Carpenters Parts too... Now back to brakes,, of course there is several companies dealing in kits like Classic Performance Products, Master Brakes, etc. that is in Truck Magazines so remember, lowest, cheapest is always not the best way to go just our little

Just a quick note about FBp's attack on the GM caliper mounting system. The bolts do not take the braking load, the caliper bracket does. the bolts are merely a guide and keep the caliper square to the rotor. For braking purposes it is much more efficient than the typical Ford/Mopar system of keystone sliders and is less prone to siezing from corrosion. Besides almost all current caliper mounting done slightly differently with pad guided calipers and even smaller locating pins!

Maybe it's just me & I don't get out much...I didn't know those were available.
Thanks for the link, Classic Performance's disc brake kit definitely looks more complete. That's the way I'd be going, if I were going that way.
Actually, it seems they offer two kits, either with or without the master cylinder. The one without the m/c is still more complete than the link I posted at the top of this thread, though.

Just so every one still knows we are here for fun, advice or helpful hints, so we were giving advice not to push Disc Brake Kits on anybody, but we are also a dealer for Classic Performance thats why I mention cause I have used them with no problems, not to sell anybody anything, giving links is OK since that makes it a whole lot easier to find parts & always looking for new sources, But anything else should be done on the Parts For Sale Posts... I do not know if still business but I also have used Super Bell Disc Brake Kits out of Cali,,, also

That's good to know 6166 Junkyard Dog; I forgot to mention, the disc brake kit is a lot cheaper from Speedway Motors. However, I found out after placing the order, the shipping will be $60 because of the heavy freight (Standard UPS). I haven't checked the shipping of the other places so who knows, I might have paid just as much money in the long run with less parts. It always works out, I always find a better deal after I already buy something. I'll probably pay about $100 more trying to save with Speedway than just shelling out the extra money in the first place.

Shipping just drives us crazy using Ups,, Rates are going up .45 % like I said before Charges us everday whether we have something or not so we had to cut that out but they find another way to charge us,, We have not used Ups in 2 Months but last time I was in there I notice the insurance rates went up Remember somebody has to pay for those race cars just like Fed-Ex also That is why we use DHL,,, Some rates are the same & some are a whole cheaper when using o/s or heavy packages but we can ship 6 days a week by DHL & open 8.00 am - 8.00 pm Also
