351 WINDSOR IN 63-250

Post by 64 litl un »

Hello,
I want to put a 351 windsor in my 63-250 and use the stock T-98 4speed. I do not want to cut out the rear crossmember because the Y block will one day be put back. What will I need to do to mount the 351 to my stock drive train? The motor mounts are available but I'm having a difficult time finding a 65 up engine to 49-64 transmission or bellhousing adapter. It seems I found that adapter just a few years ago but I'm having no luck now. Thank you all for your input.
I can drive it home with one headlight.

Not an easy swap, as I've seen no adapters for this change. Why not go with an FE engine? Or, just go with the 351 and use a later transmission? You should be able to do this withoutcuttin the crossmember out, but you may have to make some changes to the center hump, but this isn't a problem since you can find a replacement for it, as it bolts in on a four speed. Advantage, you can go to a 5 speed, with overdrive. The only reason to leave the old four speed, is low gear, and frankly, unless your planning on pulling a house down the road, it's not really needed. These trucks are notoriously low geared. An overdrive tranny would really be a nice addition to your truck. I like my old 4 speed, but frankly it's not that economical, nor needed. If you don't already have the 351, and want an easy swap, consider the FE 332 or 352. Pretty easy swap, from what I've seen, although I haven't done one. I think you use the y block bell housing.

Do a internet search for a company called Wilcap. I believe their in Pismo Beach, CA. They make adapters for just about anything out there.
