Slick 60's

the next two pics are drivers side cowl - i sorta knew this was bondo - did not expect the damage to be quite that bad

i was hoping for solid doors but i sorta expected this - drivers door

you cant see it from the above photo but its about a 2 inch deep dent with some rust holes

got the rest of the front end off today and a little house keeping done

removed the motor mounts - they was dog turd welded on threw away a bunch of rusted and bent stuff - kept the hood hinges, inner fenders and the piece that says f o r d across the front - also kept the stainless from inside the cab mostly in good shape

their is hope for this old truck yet - gonna start taking the doors off tonight and stripping the cab - get it ready to weld up the holes and such

what comes after that - bed prolly - and funding of course - need a welder bad - i am gonna buy one as soon as i free some cash up - gonna get that little 180 amp job the sell at the home despot that is all for now enjoy

That cowl looks like somebody was backin' up with the door open! Wouldn't be a terrible idea to cut that out and replace with a piece of 18ga. Could get a good look at what's under your cowl that way.

progress has schreeched to a halt for a bit -

working overtime and side work to 8 every night and not a day off since i worked on the old truck last ...but more money means I can get goodies for the slick

havent even went to pic up the crank yet - its done ...

azratrod I have not forgot about you - fuel pump went out in the van so.. anyway I will play catch up monday

finally a day off (well not really) and was able to go and pic the crank up

at the machine shop where I am the youngest by about 15 to 30 years (and im 37) they asked what's it going in and i replied a 66 ford

they chuckled and said they used to have one - and told me to check the picture on the wall next to the counter - and indeed a photo of a brand new 66 f100 with either a sport fury or a fairlane and a 49 ford truck - cant wait to bring my block in and grab a snapshot of that photo

and yes this is my kitchen

Guys at the 'chine shop said Vasoline would work fine, also. Just thought rubbin Vasoline on my crank in my kitchen would be kinda kinky lol

questions -

I am going to cut a donor cab this weekend for the parts I need, what would y'all do for the cowl? My plan is to use a cut off wheel in a grinder, but for the spot welds would this be a good idea? Planning on cutting the whole shebang, spotwelds and all. Also how do you access the backside of that cowl piece? Is that something that is made accessible with the removal of the dash? Is this something that I want to take more than I need?

Tips and suggestions please......thank you in advance

not sure but i would think that would be behind the dash to get to that area.

OMG my wife would kill me if I put a crankshaft on the kitchen counter. . . or her head would explode, not sure which. I don't think I want to find out!

donor cab is butchered up - cowl section is removed and roof line removed - pulled the fenders off whilst i wuz at it. Only thing is , I believe the rust in the donor cab to be worse than mines so there is still metal work to do to those pieces..
i will have pics up tomorrow.
