I might be a little late on this but I never used a kickdown on my 64. I have a 460 with a C6. The motor is big enough to kick the tranny down with out the rod. I've driven it this way for 13+ years on the same tranny/motor. Doesn't matter if I was towing or not.

Just my $.02 worth. :D
