Eventually I wanna overhaul and go through everything. And thats the one thing I always hear about these 6's, is that they're pretty much immortal. Ideally after I go through the engines I was thinking dual exhaust and maybe a 2bbl or 4 bbl carb to liven it up a bit.

Have you or Ollie or anyone ever messed around with a six like this? I've been doin some research on it, and it seems like something simple to do to improve on it (if you got the $). Seems like it generally results in better performance, response, and possibly gas mileage. I just don't know if i'll need to upgrade the insides at all.

I hope so too. Once I get everything home and in place it will be my first foray into the actual inner workings of an engine :shock:

What carb and distributor are you using?
Working on a '66 F100 with a '71 240 and the original three-on-the-tree...

I've got the duraspark II dizzy, and as for carb I was thinking something in the 390-450 cfm range

Sounds like an excellent combo. I am amazed at the difference between the Duraspark and the load-o-matic.

I don't think I've ever had any experience with a load-o-matic....but I do like this DS II. This truck starts easy and *did* run well.

Also I'm having the garage put a high volume oil pump in. Gonna make sure that new 300 is getting lot of oiling!

Pike channel on TV has auto shows on the weekends. I think it was two Sundays ago the built and dynoed a 300. I can't remember what the numbers were but I remember I was impressed. I think if you go to the Spike web site and look for "Power Nation" and "Engine Power" under that you can watch the episode. If I can find it I'll post a link here.

Is the Duraspark II a plug in play in pace of the load-a-matic? Or is there a lot of wiring to do?

DSII will require a control box of some fashion, and the wiring to make it work. It's fairly straight-forward. Many people will obtain the assemblies from a later model, including wiring. There is also complete info, including wiring layout, on this site as to using another manufacturer's module, which makes a very clean, dependable conversion, IMO. The Load-o-matic carburetor can also be changed out for a conventional design.
