Engine Swap- 460 in a 66 questions
No problem, I wanted to post it so others know what to look for. I also have the other style and I now have a couple of these so I can swap them next time I am doing something. On one truck I can't even unscrew the drain plug so I have to jack up the engine to change the oil so it will be getting one of these pans very soon! LOL The sad part was I did not even know about these pans until I went junkyarding. I have pulled dozens of sets of motor mounts from 460 trucks and never noticed that rear drain. When I found these I looked at several trucks and only the later 70's ones had the rear drains and the earlier ones were like what I already have. Oh well, got the other one on already and its staying there for now..lol
Thanks for the pic though.. I really understand these oil pans now.
Can you guys tell me if I need the electric choke or the manual choke? I know my 66 had a manual choke originally. Thanksbanjopicker66 wrote:Santi, don't get any carb larger than 600 CFM, unless you plan to drag or race or mud or want the wow factor.
I started with a 750 CFM, and although it ran well and gave me lots of power, it ran rich.
Changed over to a 600, and mileage went up and power stayed the same for regular truck type duties. I can tell it doesn't quite have the same ooomph at WOT, but I don't anticipate ever needing to tun that high.
My 460 has an "RV" type cam in it, and has straight up camshaft timing, using a Cloyes double roller set.

Santi, I found that the original 352 V8 choke cable on mine was too short, so I went with an electric choke. For our warm weather down here, I adjusted it lightly, and it works fine.
I thought about using a 6-cylinder choke, as it might be longer, but I never looked into it.
You could, of course, use an after-market choke cable, but then it wouldn't look quite right right. I left the original choke cable in place, and even though it doesn't work, it still looks like it belongs there in the dash.

Re: Engine Swap- 460 in a 66 questions
I put a 400 in my 63, similar oil pans. I went to the parts store and purchased a fitting that screws directly into to plug hole, approximately 8" on the transmission hose that slipped onto the fitting and another fitting and cap for the other end of the hose and the oil now drains out of the hose on the back side of the crossmember. It is a poorboys way to fix the problem.
