UPDATE.....................
Well ya learn somethin new everyday. Just got the phone call from the Machinist that's rebuilding my heads. These are 390 heads. This makes Iceman totally right (well half right) in the assumption that these heads were in fact prolly slapped on. All this time I thought they were the original 352 heads They are now ready to get picked up, with new exhaust valves, hardened seats, a few guides had to be replaced and new springs, several I think. They look like brand new heads according to him. Haven't seen them yet but I will. Now comes the fun part. Installation

Oldtruck;
My posting was directed at myself and myself only regarding my obviously failing memory. It's not the first time my remarks and attempts at humorous sarcasm have been misunderstood! I readily apologize if you took my remark to be directed at you.
I believe there is a song concerning that topic
. If anyone might feel offended by my posts to this topic, it should be Limestone, and it appears he just replied in kind, and explained his reasoning. Limestone, just in case you were offended by my remarks, I again apologize; re-reading my posts to understand what irritated Oldtruck tells me I could have been more diplomatic! I've come to enjoy your posts, and hope my replies were not offensive!
I have absolutely no role in the operation or maintenance of this site; I just hopped aboard and met some really great people as a result. Once again, welcome to the site; sorry it was a hassle! If I might offer a suggestion; it would be for you to just relax and enjoy what the site has to offer. If you joined with the expectation that you would become concerned about someone's posting, that expectation may become self-fulfilling!
BTW, I DO take exception to your "elitist" label; I have spent my life striving to be an equal opportunity offender!
Grits, thanks for the flowers, but let's keep quiet about the stickers, caps, and such! Next thing you know people will be joining for those items

Yeah, there's always some MMO around my shop. My Dad swore by it, and it remains a pretty impressive product today.
I'm a big believer in quality synthetic oils, also. I can't prove they're any better than Dino oil, but I know they've worked well for me!
BTW, did your machinist identify which 390 heads were on the 352? Most of the early ones were pretty much the same as the 352s as far as chamber and valve sizing. They didn't appear to be the later "GT" heads, so I'm curious as to what they were.

Re: 352 Heads...........Ughh!
Well i doubt they're GT heads, unless they didnt know what they had. But i am dissappointed that these arent original 352 heads, as this kinda erodes the originallity of it. I am very partial to this old truck, as i feel that i have 'saved' it. The 'P.O.' is deceased and his family has taken all of his posessions and sold them off, including my 'Limestone'. They dont know anything about this old truck so the questions i asked were without answers. Sad man,cuz this be a magnificent old truck left out to die, until i showed up.

'352' stamped on the lower right front engine block makes all the difference to me.

Took these pics as we pulled the heads using my sons S3 Galaxy.

Re: 352 Heads...........Ughh!
I know the feeling of "saving" something. I wouldn't personally be concerned about the originality aspect, since that can be extremely hard to determine even to an experienced eye. There are probably a bunch of Ford FE's around with inaccurately identified engines and transmissions. Ford has done some strange things through the years. The "352" identification you mentioned is a good example. It is found on most FE engine blocks regardless of displacement. The Fordomatic "two-speed" that's really a three-speed is another example. We have a "F150 HD 7700" that appears to be an exact duplicate of an "F250 LD 7700", seven lug wheels and all
This weekend we adopted a freight train of a Powerstroke CC. It's advertised as a five speed, yet we now are told this trans have SIX ranges
Oh, well, it keeps life interesting, and expands the bond between forum members!
BTW, the "GT" heads I referred to are easily to distinguish by the dual exhaust bolt pattern.
Hope all goes together well on yours; it certainly represents effort well spent!
It is really an unusual one from your pics; it's been a loooong time since I've encountered an FE with nine spark plugs
Is that a PCV valve in the valve cover? It might be worth the effort to change it out to a replacement with the newly reconditioned heads.
Enough for now!

I've always 'respected' what you say on all of your posts and you seem very knowledgeable on these old Fords, much more than me. We will soon know how this old girl does with her new {390} heads. BTW, i have a new pcv valve in the box even though the old one still rattles fine {valve not stuck}. Nine spark plugs

Paul. I sincerely apologize for my misunderstanding. While I shouldn't be so touchy one reason I don't usually frequent forums is that I have been flamed on a couple for having an opinion that differs from whatever Guy seems to be the board alpha male. This forum seems to be the opposite of just about any forum I have been on and it shows in the manner in which you guys handled my misunderstanding calmly and kindly. Thank you. It wont happen again.
Re: 352 Heads...........Ughh!
No apology needed! Most of us have encountered the situation you mentioned. It just gives us more appreciation for this forum and it's members. We're certainly not exempt from the theatrics (and I'm often right in the middle), but we do seem to have a common bond which transcends most misunderstandings.

Re: 352 Heads...........Ughh!
The 352 on the block is standard on a wide range of FE engines. Have you measured the stroke yet? don't know how accurate this is but it looks right.
http://www.fordfe.info/FEStrokeCheck.htm
Some years of the truck 390,s had a large deck height which killed the performance of the motors due to low compression.
Emissions 390 chart
The 390 truck engine of the 1970s uses the 410 piston to reduce the compression ratio. This piston often has 410 on the side of the piston near the pin boss. The chart at the right shows that this increase the deck height to 0.120. When you add a head gasket thickness of 0.042 this effectively eliminates quench and greatly reduces power. The only solution is change the pistons.
Likewise he 360 truck engine of the 1970s uses the 390 piston to reduce the compression ratio. This piston usually has 390 4V on the side of the piston near the pin boss.
