Pertronix

Post by Roc »

Hi everybody , I would like to know if someone of yours have Pertronix on your trucks ?
I would like to know if you have one , if you can start your engine more easier or if it makes no difference with or without it ?
Thanks for your answers :D
I have one on my mustang but it was on the car when I bought it , so I can't compare...

Don't know about Petronix, but I put a dist. and carb off an '81 300 on my '66. Stock Ford Duraspark. The improvement was like night and day! The old vacuum advance only setup was hard starting, and gutless. Now she fires up on the first flip and gets half again the gas mileage. The carb had to be changed because of the different vacuum porting.

Mine came with a Pertronix, so can't tell you the 'before' but it's been trouble free. While I do like the Duraspark system, the Pertronix is far easier to install and not much more expensive than a junkyard setup.

Somewhat over 5 years ago, I installed a Pertronix I and matching Coil on my 62/223. About as simple as installing a set of Points. Starts easier and faster, smoother idle, slightly better mileage, and NO MAINTENANCE. I am very well pleased with the result. I feel it has paid for itself over time with performance that does not degrade as with points. I am old school though and still do not trust a lot of this new-fangled stuff, and so I carry a spare set of points, a condenser, and a standard coil.

Installed it on my slick one month ago, greatest improvement I have made to that engine. Highly recommend it.

I have a Performnce Distributors Davis Unified Ignition (DUI) system on my 302 and it works great AND requires no external coil. Very simple to hook install and there's not a bunch of wires running everywhere. In fact there's only one wire that needs to be run to it.....the hot wire. But......it's $332. Basically it's like a GM HEI, in fact many of the GM replacement parts will work if something does fail.

Just put one on my 292 674F100. Starts much quicker, idles smoother, don't know about mileage yet. I Finally gave up fighting the foreign made crappy points. Have to change over the 312 in my 56 sedan now!!
