Body Panel Swap

Post by ABA »

Will '63 or '64 body panels (hood, front fenders, grill etc...) bolt up on a '65?
I found a '64 parts truck (minus the bed) in pretty good condition today.
Dude said he would swap me for my '69 parts truck.
Should I or shouldn't I ?

Hood = Yes, will have to fill in holes from emblem
Grille = No, sort of. It will fit but it will have the turn signals in it.
Upper Valance = No, sort of. It does not have the turn signals in it.
Lower Valence = Yes
Outer Fenders = Yes
Inner Fenders = No
Rad Support = No, sort of. You can make it fit but you will have to modify it. (do a search, it has been talked about before)

The clip will work as a hole, but it gets fuzzy when you mix and match.

If you post the specific parts you need, we can tell you if they will work.

be sure to save all the bolts in their original parts as 61-64 are fine thread and 65-66 is coarse thread.
65 and 66 doors have extra indents inside.only matters if you know the difference.
to add to MadMax post- outer fenders will not have holes for emblem.

I was thinking of using the clip (hood, inner and outer fenders and grill) as a whole.
That would be the easiest thing to do.

I was told it was a '66 but when I saw the straght front axle i knew better.
Hmm, may have to sleep on this one.

Thanks for the replies guys.

well if you take the hole clip off then it should bolt up. the only things I see would be inner fenders and the twin-I not sure of inerfearance, emblem holes, and how to mount the rad.

both styles of clip bolt up differently to the cab.i would think it easier to use a 61-64 on a 65-66 than the other way around.

I've just gotta say that all this helps out, I plan on switching out my hood, fenders, lower valance, grill (I might make one out of diamond pattern steel for BBQ grills), front bumper, and one of my inner fenders. I might buy a parts truck, wrecked on the rear, to do this swap with my 62 unibody., which has been slightly wrecked in the front. Thanks for the help, this thread has defintetly influenced my decision.
