Console ideas

Post by Uncle Skip »

Once again, my buddy, BroncoTom rises to the occasion.
I finally have a place to put my Big Gulp while I motor along.
I must say at this point, this idea is only a matter of his having a "terminal junk yard withdrawal attack" and accidentally stumbling across the right part and not a stroke of genius like he claims.
But non the less, credit IS due........
Take a look at my album to see the finished product. (duh, I still can't figure out how to post a damn picture in this thing).
For a $10.00 bill each (uh, JC and the rest of you Canuks, that is American money  ) we got a pair of Dodge Omni standard shift consoles and proceeded to install them in Reba and Nadine.
What is cool too, if you have bucket seats [we don't] you can use the little console storage area too.
Reba, as you might recall is a sexy dark metallic blue 4-speed '65.
Nadine is a cranky old gnarley sky blue and white '63 C-6 automatic.
Sooooo, the consoles went in backward of each other either because of the shifter thing or personal preference.
Personally, I think mine is much better than his but then, thats the way things usually turn out when you drive a manly straight axle truck and not a girleyman twin I-beam with power steering.
Besides, mine is black, his is grey.
Anyway, I digress.
A little trimming of the plastic so the console will fit the transmission hump, two pieces of 1x2 cut and fitted to match the bottom of the console, and then bolted to the floor make things rigid is about all it takes.
The console, or at least mine, is attached to the wood with small deck screws. I think he used 10 penny nails..... he's from Oklahoma you know.
Anyway, thanks for the great idea Tom. You da man.
Maybe some of you can use this idea or at least be inspired to find another little addition to your truck like this and share it with the group.
Wait til you see the instrument cluster he and phRed cooked up too. I guess that's later.
Take a look and tell us what you think.

Another little bite of elephant done gone.
Anybody want to tell me how to insert a picture?

Looks nice Skip, but why didn't you get the gray one?

BTW: Big Gulp is the name of Nadine's engine...

At least its not John Deere Green and Yellow.
ROTFLMAO...... if you live in Texas, you better be able to take it as well as dish it out, right Max.

Do they make pink ones? I need one for my girlyman truck.

Looks pretty good Skip. Fits your shifter rather nicely. 8)

The PO of my truck is a welder by trade so I got me an all steel console that's welded down to the floor between the buckets. The top of it is a thick piece of wood that has cut outs for beverages. If it was insulated you could fit a six pack inside it.

Saw some John Deere valve covers once, but have no idea what you're talking about other than that, no sir.

I like your choice of drink. After spending 10 days in Africa without Dr. Pepper I was willing to pay $10 when I got off the plane in the good ol USA.

nice fit.
i have buckets and want something to fill the space other than the current little wooden box that came with a truck i got.
i have some of the center vinyl pieces from seats with the logo that i cut out and was planning to use one of them for a covering on the lid of the console i have planned.also would like to have armrests in the center, somehow mounted to the sides.

What year was the Omni? I have a local scrap yard in (Xenia Ohio) that has several of these cars in all different states of disrepair. My only concern is I have the 3 speed that has been changed to the Hot Rod Indy shifter (shaved off .5 seconds in the quarter mile!!) so I don't know how it will work.

I'm not really sure of the year.... I'm pretty sure its somewhere between a '94-98 or so. Just take a look and you'll see one. BT should chime in here in a bit. He's the one that found the console's and he should know for sure.
I can't believe he's been so quiet.

the console is a Neon

Post by Uncle Skip »

Oh yeah. I talked to BroncoTom today and it is out of a Neon, like Neon Dion. I have a mental block about those cars.
Sorry guys.
NEON
