Here are some pics of the progress that I am making. It seems like there is always something else to do before this engine can go in.
The water inlet comes out on the the side of the block and the hose hit the steering box. I ordered a different one from Ford Racing with the oil filter set up for AN fittings instead of an oil filter so I can relocate that. The water inlet was different than mine but still wouldn't work so I cut up the two parts and welded the inlet on where I wanted it so that it would work.
Image
After the p/s pump goes on, it is getting pretty tight on space again.
Image

I painted the valve covers to match the body color and got them swapped out.
Image

I still wasn't crazy about seeing the intake manifold and injectors, so I made an aluminum cover for that.
Image

I have a large piece of aluminum tubing coming that I am going to cut in half and make a cover for the MAF and the throttle body. I decided not to chrome the MAF.
I am going to have both of these aluminum covers chromed.
I do believe that I am finally ready to start prepping the truck for disassembly.

This is what I decided on to cover the MAF sensor.
It has gone out to the chrome shop and waiting for it to come back. The bracket at the back is for the throttle cable and the cruise control cable.

And now the dissassembly has begun.

After this was taken, I have the front fenders off and will get the second inner apron off soon. Then it goes to the back garage where I can get really serious.

The old is out and getting ready for the new.

I have the motor mounts made and ready to install. I need to mount the shifter and the parking brake to the floor before the engine and trans are installed. Lokar made me a conversion kit to swap my trans mount shifter over to a floor mount shifter for the 4r70w trans. Hopefully I can get this done this coming weekend and then get the engine in the next weekend.
The hardest part about this was getting all the wires disconnected so I can salvage it and sell the old stuff and still have it ready to accept the new wiring.

Looks good.

So what time do I need to be there to dispose of that "old" motor?

That's because of the fuel injection.

I got the engine sat into the frame this weekend but didn't like the way that it sits. The EGR valve was too close to the firewall so I had to take it off and make a block off plate for it. This means that I will need to buy a chip for it sooner so I can eliminate it out of the computer. I know that it will throw a code without it.
I am going to try and redo the motor mounts and drop the engine down another 3/4 - 1". The trans is a little too close to the floor.
Pics to follow.

Do you know what chip your going with? For my 2 trucks I am using a quarter horse from Moates. Might be something for you to look at if you don't already have something. :2cents:

I have looked into this chip but it has been a while so I will need to research it again.

Here are some progress pics.
I had to redo the motor mounts. They still sat too high. The original mounts were way to tall.
Image
This is what I changed to. It took quite a bit of modification but it dropped the engine down almost 1 1/2".
Image

Here is the engine finally sat in the truck for the final time, hopefully.
Image
Plenty of clearance at the firewall.
Image
The shifter and brake lever are mounted to the floor.
Image
The transmission is installed now and I am making the trans mount on Sunday.
And the best part so far is that there is not any damage to the paint yet, even after I had the engine in and out probably 8 times.

Boy, Kevin, that engine's looking great. Can't wait to see it in person.

I got the wiring harness temporarily hooked up this week jst to see if it would run.
It started today. :D :D :D :D :D
That means that the homemade wiring harness that I made is going to work out okay. I hooked up a light for the check engine light and it did throw a code instantly but I expected that to happen. I eliminated the EGR valve so I expected the code. Now I just have to get a reader so I can find out if that is the only code, hopefully so.
Now it is on to get the radiator put in so I can let it run for more than 3 seconds at a time. Then on to finish the wiring and reassembly.
More pics to follow.

The 4.6 DOHC is a 95 Mark VIII so it is OBD1. I know that there is a way to count the flashes on the light to get a code but I don't know how to do that yet. I have the wiring just mickey moused together right now so it would be tough to get the proper wires hooked to the battery just to get some codes out. The wiring is laying out on the garage floor right now and the wiring coming from the truck is hanging out everywhere.

The radiator is back in now. I have to finish filling it with anti-freeze and then I can start it and let it run for a while. I picked up a couple of pieces of exhaust pipe today so I can at least tack them into place so it won't be quite as loud until I can get it to the muffler shop to get it fixed properly. I will need to drain it again so I can get the heater hoses hooked up after the fender apron goes back in.
