I'm planning on putting a 351 crate motor in my 65. can anyone tell where to get motor mounts for the conversion. The original motor was a 352. Also, can anybody tell any other pitfalls to doin this?
thanks

Try www.dennis-carpenter.com or www.vintageford.com I think one of them should have what your looking for.

1 DEPENDING ON THE YEAR OF THE BLOCK YOU MAY NOT HAVE THE TAPPED HOLE NEAR THE BELLHOUSING ( DRIVERS SIDE)FOR THE CLUTCH BELL CRANK TO PIVET ON. IF NOT LET ME KNOW I WILL SEND PIC. OF ONE I MADE. UNLESS YOU USE AN AUTO.TRANS.
2 YOU WILL NEED SMALL BLOCK BELL HOUSING OR ONE FROM A 240 OR 300 I6.
3 SHORTY HEADERS
THATS ALL I CAN THINK OF NOW.

My cousin just put a 351w in his 65', he used motor perches and mounts from a later model 302 truck, 70' I think, I believe he had to use the next set of holes fwd of the original fe holes.

Yes, in a twin I truck. that's what you need. Try and get ones from a 69'-'79 302 truck with power steering, the drivers tower is different for power steering.

Also use a Truck style Forged Nodular Steel Bellhousing, not an alloy one from a "Mustache" or other P-Car.

A stout 351W makes enough torque to corrupt alloy B'Hsgs. Don't ask me how I learned this truth. . . .

My '66 was a 352 truck and it looks like the 351C as installed on the 352 towers using '68-'79 302/351W rubber mounts. That's what I bought when I replaced one of the mounts. (I specifically asked for a 1972 302 mount, BTW)

I am guessing some combo of the below:

Inexpensive
Easy to find parts for
Inexpensive to get performance parts for
Easier on gas than an FE
Able to squeak up to 400 horses out of on a budget
Available
Easy to install a crate motor (try and find a reasonably priced FE crate motor)

Small block Fords. Ain't just for breakfast anymore

I will add;

Power to weight ratio
parts availibility & commonality
Build-Ability in performance terms
Room in engine bays like a slick
More Bang for the buck
Tranny/gearbox variety & common availability
Nodular Iron Casting & Cranks
Interchangeability & ease of mounting, installation
And modernity of design, operation & function
AND there has to be some reasons NASCAR still uses them in a multi- million $$$$$$$ a year industry. . . .

This engine, the FoMoCo 351W, has been around for nearly 50 years. It is a great engine. It can be taken well over 450CID if one wants to. If you got the stones to huff it & run Nitro, 1000-1200 hp is achievable. NASCAR gets 750hp out of theirs with a carb & gaso;ine, so the question becomes why wouldn't someone choose 351W FoMoCo engines to install?
You gotta remember I'm a 460 addict, but 351Ws are excellent engines. They have the history & reputation to prove it.

The real answer however, is maybe that's the engine he wants,
