Question about body work

Hey guys, quick question. Got a bed for my 64 F100 at a salvage yard. Need to strip it and prime it but all I have is a Milwaukee drill and some grinding wheels. Am i better of taking it somewhere and having it sandblasted? I can prime it and paint it myself, can also pull out the dents, but am worried about wearing out my drill or spending a life time doing it. Any help would be appreciated

put your bed on a trailer and go to oriely and buy a gallon of air craft stripper and a paint brush the go to a car wash and put the stripper on let it sit then blast it off and really repete as snessacerry or if you have a pessure washer just skip the trailer and car wash part or you can go to a pawn shop and buy a dewalt 4 1/2 in grinder and a wire wheel for it and go to town. i did both on mine did one side one way and the other another way just to see how they turned out the stripper works good take a couple days instead of one day but the stipper didnt make my hands hurt from the grinder vibrating

with the aircraft stripper. this stuff really works well. we stripped Dads '68 Mustang with it and it turned out great. (no wire wheel scratches) It did take a couple coats but it worked just like it said it would. If I was to strip mine to bare metal, this is how I would do it.... just my :2cents:

I did soda blasting on my 79 F150. The metal looks like new. It won't touch is the only down fall.

The paint stripper here is great works a hell of lot better than the stuff you get in the stores..

i would put in a vote for stripper just because you can do it yourself and you can do a little at a time. strip one bedside fix it prime it them do the other, that way you dont have a bare metal bed waiting on someone to put hands all over it. also because if you have a moron at the blasting place they can, and will warp the heck out of stuff, thesetrucks are pretty tough (ie thick)but i had a blasting moron cost me about 4 days worth of work on a mid 90s f250, it was warped bad...(it was a black truck) and also dont forget to get some metal prep to wipe down the metal after you get the stripper off or for after you get it ground down depending how you go about it. and be carefull not to touch the bare metal and try to do it when the humidity is down. good luck! o, and use a GOOD etch primer not that rattle can crap.

it will take off paint from anywhere, but not the rust. i will assume the floor has surface rust on it so you might be better off to grind that paint off since you will be grinding the rust off anyway.
