Question on turn signal cancel cams?

Post by 64 f100 »

Some while back, I found a guy on Ebay that had many of these cancel cams, so I bought 3, thinking sooner or later I would need these. Sure enough I need one for my grandsons 66. Got one out and went to use it. Will wonders never cease, it looked right at first glance, but of course reality came and bit me on the arse. Package had a number 14 on it, and litsed that it fit several vehicles including 61 to 66 For trucks, but apparently not 65 and 66, don't knwo about 61 thru 64. I had another one I had used and kept the package because it had an extra clip, so I stuck it on a board in my shop. Went and looked at it and it has a number 13, but I don't remmember exactly which truck I used it on. Went to Ebay, and low and behold I found a listing for 61 to 7 something Ford trucks, No 9 with two wires. None of mine has wires, go figure. So I e-mailed the guy, as I had had good luck dealing with him before. He wrote back, saying he thought I needed a number 12, and that he thought I had one for a four wheel drive. At this point, I went and bid on an whole switch with a c9TZ number supposedly for a 66, which I think is right. Does anyone know the right answere to this puzzle?

Ya know...I bought one of those two-wire repair kits about 10 years ago, to fix one of my '77 Hi-boys I used to have. It didn't look like it would work on that without destroying the turn signal switch, so I kept it to use on some other vehicle. I bought a new switch instead.

I bet I've tried to use that stupid kit on 6 different cars/trucks now & not ONE of them looked like it would work. I'm not convinced it actually works on anything, I think it's just supposed to look pretty in the package. :P

never used those kits but i have taken the unit apart before and fixed it with the cam from another identical switch.
either way replacing the cam or the entire switch and harness is time-consuming.

I just did mine. Don't have the package, but got it from our member Flashback F100's. Right part, fit no problem. Not a 5 minute job though.

The cam I needed is the sm12, and I can get one for 10$ plus shiping, but sounds like a lot, for a piece of plastic no bigger than one finger. the ones I have, are for a 4 wheel drive, from what I understand. I got three of those for 9$ plus 2 bucks for shiping. Not much of a bargain when I can't use it. Did flashbacks charge 10$ for one of these? The whole switch is only 25$.

IIRC, the price on mine was $8 but I may be wrong. I've had it for awhile also.
Seems like a lot in a way, but every vendor who sells them charges about the same price, so what you gonna do? Try buying the same thing for any modern car...won't be close to that!
