Post by motormount1 »

i have had a stock rebuild happen to it. and i had a 2 bbl. intake made for it and split headders made for it. i had to replase the rocker arm assembely and get. new push rods and of corse new pistons, the block was bored out. and a new cranck and oil pump.the motor is almost brand new.and i already put electronic ignition in the distributor. a bigger radiator already found a home in my truck 4 years ago. as soon as i get it home im going to get tires put on the new rims and put the on the truck. ill post pictures of it when im finished.

Clifford parts

Post by Truckrat »

Whew, dang proud of those puppies ain't they! I always wanted to build a 300 up with an aluminum 4 barrel intake, headers, 390 cfm holley carb, and a highlift cam. Also shave the head and port match the exhaust ports. Also balance the whole recipricating assembly. I think Dan has done a lot of that to his red bump. Would be fun in a short uni with a 5 speed behind it. TR

Whatever Dan/Max has done , it was sure a boatload of fun to watch him put an '06 Brand X truck into the weeds with his six cylinder bumpside :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

at least from what we could see from behind that kid...

Headers

Post by JFCDeuce »

I remember the guy at my local speed shop quoted me $165.00 for a set of 223 Headers From patriot, I ended up finding an original Fenton Split so I ran that instead.

Patriot Part # H8425

You can get them from Jegs $159.00

Ive looked for headers for my 223 but can't find them. Do they not make them for the 64 anywhere with a 1bbl?

Pat, I was thinking of a multi carb setup for the 223 I had. I got to figuring you could make about anything you wanted, would be about the same as building a header just easier. I posted the thought on the inline board - the racing guys have done it for years.

I'm at a time when I am trying to decide whether to hang on to the Uni or not-- if I do I will keep the 223 in it; however, when Greg D took his unscheduled "vacation" here about a year ago, he pointed out my 223 is a blue block with a black valve cover -- the Uni is a '61, I thought the engine was too, but I guess its not the right color--- any one know what year blue block/black valve cover was the color scheme on the 223?

If you enlare the photo I do believe the Patriot headers are dual exit, there are 2, 2" collectors.

Using a set of tube headers, you lose the heat transfer to the intake, so the Clifford 4bbl makes a lot of sense.

I did have an Offy 3x1 Intake, other than the fact that it was a pain in the A^% to make it with a progressive linkage (the 1904 carbs have butterfly shafts parallel to the block, there's a lot of linkages involved to get them to move separately unl ikle a set of rochesters or strombers with the perpendicular shafts.) The return spring to pull 3 carbs closed made it operate very tight (sort of All on All off kind of driving)

They do make a 2x1 as well. (www.offyparts.com) or if you have some Fabricarton skills you could make your own.

Kepp the 6. I like the 300s for the big trucks but the 223 in a short slick and a T-5 would haul ass. A 390 Holley on a 223 would be plenty and would sip gas if you stayed out of the secondarys.

I like racing people off the light or giving rides, then telling them it's a 6.

They always say "Realy?!? It sure felt like an 8!"

Thats cuz 6's rule! (but there is no replacement for displacement!)
