FAQ's as Stickys in the Hints and Tricks section

Post by Johnny Canuck »

Any chance we can have tech articles as stickys..
here are some examples of what I mean

Newbie:How do I get power steering on my '62 Flareside?
Oldtimer: go to the sticky in Hints and Tricks, there are plenty of solutions there

Newbie: How do I put disk brakes on my '65 Flatbed?
Oldtimer: go to the sticky in Hints and Tricks, there are plenty of solutions there

Newbie: How do I get a 351w in my '61 F250?
Oldtimer: go to the sticky in Hints and Tricks, there are plenty of solutions there

I asked some of these very same questions when I came here, as does almost every newbie. Wouldn't this make it easier both for the newbie, and us to have a place to store the relevant info for easy reference?
The way it is set up now is maybe OK , but there's one thing missing. INFO. One hood flying up article does not a tech section make. I would suggest a separate sticky at least for each of the above questions too. Those seem to be the most common... I am sure there are more.

I think having that info in the Hints & Tricks section is good enough, especially since that section is still relatively uncluttered. The only problem with newbies it getting them to look there before they post about it.
That's the hard part.

Also, there's a few threads in the Hints section that could be moved elsewhere...like Unca Skip's "I must be a dumbass" thread  , that could probably go in the Bug Reports section. :P

I see your point. It would be nice to have some of those common question threads at the top, where they're easy to see.

My only reservation to stickied threads is that after they're up there for a while, often they get bypassed because we get too used to them being there & automatically surf downward for current threads, even the newbies (at least that's how it is on other boards I'm on). Plus it sucks having to surf down past 10 stickies to get to a current thread. :P
Hence, maybe have threads like that moved to the Hints section & each one titled with an eye-grabbing title. Then maybe tag the hints section with something like "answers to common questions here"...maybe.

I dunno, maybe I'm just making it harder than it really is? Your idea for streamlining the site is definitely a step forward...I guess I thought I'd just muddy the water a little. hehe

I always forget about that part of this site. It's almost as if it's a site within the site...or this is a site within that site...hmmm, dunno. :dontknow:
I think I'd better go have a beer or six & think this over.

well you brought it up, i have kept it to myself but,

one word comes to mind when i think about this,

http://www.fordification.com

takes a bit longer to go thru but i like the way its set up.
i think more categories are needed here too.

not too much in here on the 4x4s and they have tech literature on the transfer cases.

as far as tech and info goes, and the way its set up,
Keith is kicking our butt
i know its not a contest for best site, but i think we need more.
