I am quite sure that the front axel should be straight, but I will check on my 61 tommorrow. It is also a 9" rear end, just looked at some information on the forum, I think it is an early version of the 9" member. If I can find the forum it is posted in, I will post the link. You seem to have a nice 61 chrome grill there.

This link may be it or has the information in it. http://www.kevinstang.com/Ninecase.htm

My axle is dead straight

If you can't get a socket on the lower nuts of the diff its a 9"
A straight shot with a socket = 8"

28 spline 9"s came missing the fin

I admit I kept thinking as I read that maybe your wife is mad at you

Same as the 4 I have had. Did it need some toe in and the PO not have a wrench?

So since most of us agree the axle is bent, now anyone care to speculate on how it happened? maybe driving hellbent for leather across an open field and finding a stump? or maybe trying to jerk the truck from a spot in which it had sat for years? any more guesses?

im guessing probally a stump. I do live in arkansas and people here do alot of stupid things. I also noticed the front leaf springs are ~ shaped. someone must have been doing alot of hot rodding.

I need to post some updated pics of the progress, but as the rust holes get larger my ideas of a stocker fade away. I have found another uni in much better condition and am about to buy it. But it will be put up til I finish this project. Thinking of putting in a t bird IRS, mustang II IFS, 302 and c4, and probably shave everything and airbag it.
