You can use either one depending on your needs. If you do a lot of towing etc. get the small block C-6. You will lose more H.P. through the larger diameter clutches. The C-4 is good for almost anything else.

what he said.

The C4 has an 11% loss and the C6 has about a 22% loss. The C4 is good for everyday and some light towing an hauling, but the C6 is good for heavy work and lots of power.

You can tell just by looking at them. The C4 is dwarfed by the C6.

With gas being what it is, you might consider an AOD.. A C4 can be built to be nearly as strong as a C6. Overall, the C6 is a much stronger tranny stock, and stall is about 1600 on the C6, from what I've been told.

my favourite truck of all time was my 78 F100 with a 302 and a C4. Only thing i did not like about that truck was the weakness of the C4.

I would go for a C6 any time over a stock C4, but as these fine gents have stated, a c4 can be built much stonger than factory, as can an AOD, which is basically a C4 with an overdrive gear, as I understand it.
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..
