Rear Hood Flip Kit

Post by 62 UNI »

Does anyone know if someone makes a hood hinge kit that allows you to open the hood opposite as it was inteded (like the kit Mike Chesser makes for the '56 styled units)?

you could cut the hinges out of a circa 1986 buick electra or park ave.
For every person with a spark of genius, there are a hundred with ignition trouble

I have already looked at the buick/olds reverse hinge option........I was just hoping that someone made a kit to OUR specific application......

Thanks for the thoughts.

hood flip

Post by unforgiven66 »

I have had alot of people ask me how I did the flip on my hood, check my album for a pic, this is a bit tricky to get to work as the hood must first lift and pull forward to clear the header panel above the grille, lifting in my case was achieved by 2 linear actuators remote operated. There is no specific kit avail for this aplication but with a little patience and fab skills it can be done. The hinges I fabed along with all items.

The forward tilt hood is one of the most sensible ideas for our trucks. This cures the hood blowing up, while driving problems these trucks sometimes have. I've looked at the Buick hood option, and believe it could be adapted without to much trouble. Aditional benefits would be to get rid of the troublesome hood hinges, and fixing the hood ride height at the cowl, as it would be latched at the rear, and positively held in place. Safety, and looks improvement at the same time, what more could you aske for?

I built one for my truck. Here is a picture of it in the first stage of opening, It opens all the way forward to the point where the front of the hood hangs down to the front bumper.

My first was on a 1956 Ford Courier (sedan delivery) that was power operated. Unfortuneately I lost the pictures on a hard drive crash years ago.

Recently did one on a Studebaker coupe, check out the video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7qE7s-myPY

My hood works very similar to the Stude.
