Steering gear interchangablity question. And a axle question

Post by 64fordf100292v8 »

Hi everyone, I know 61-64 2wd and 4wd steering gears are different but I cant remember if there is a difference between F100 2wd and F250 2wd steering gears? Anyone remember or know?

Oh yeah, had another question, is the axle itself the same between a 2wd F100 and a 2wd F250? My guess is the only difference is the spindles, hubs and brakes.

Thanks in advance for the help. :D

I too had a similar steering question - what box can be interchanged on a 62 F1 2WD UNI? And does anyone have a decent 1 laying around 4 sale?

Sorry about jacking your thread.

Great - thanks for the info.

If you have a VERY tight unit I'd be interested.

Great info!! Now im going to sort of hi-jack my own thread and ask how can I i.d. a 262 inline six? I have the truck vin which is F25BR481121.

I also have a block number from behind the generator which is C4TE-6015-C or G, engine was dirty.

Thanks again for the steering gear and axle info. :D

that block number is correct for a 262 c4te 6015-c i sold one the other day.also if it still has the oil bath it should say 262 on it.i was told that only in 64 was the 262 in the f100 and they rare and fetch pretty decent money for an inline 6 anyway

Ok, I have one more question, the axle code is B6, what gear ratio would this be? 4.10's is my guess.

Most likely a 4.56 gear being a 6 cylinder and 3/4 ton. Thanks, Lyman.

my 4x4 with 292 and 4.56 i drive at 65 in 4 hi, no problems.

the 223 and 262 can be distinguished by the valve cover, the 223 has the oil fill in the front,262 is more in the middle.
