That is a really nice find, Steve! What "big job" do you plan to tackle first?

Drew: I did not see your question until now.

I am currently in the process of stripping all of the components out of the engine bay with the goal of pulling the engine sometime this weekend (three days off to work on the slick!).

Once that is out, I can start on cleanup of the inner fenders, front frame, and firewall before painting.

After painting, I can start the rewiring (the current wiring is literally toast) and also the brake conversion with new master cylinder and disc brakes.

Take photos this weekend. I have to go out of town for a few days, so no Slick project work for me.....

Are you going to put your truck back to the orginal Caribbean turquoise? The parchment seats are will look good in your truck.

Michelle: That is my plan currently.

The only bug is that my wife has also seen the picture of the Caribbean Turquoise Ranger on your Ranger page and that one has the turquoise seats in it. We will decide when we get to the point of ordering the new upholstery but that is still quite a ways off for me. I can only put in about 10 hours per week max to the project will all my other "irons in the fire" as well.

Well, I have finally gotten back to work on this project.

I retired the middle of last year, and after working on several other little projects around the house and yard, I started back to work on my slick.

When I stopped previously, I had stripped and repainted the suspension/frame area up to the firewall, installed lowering I-beams and front disc brakes.

Now, I have gotten the bed pulled off and have stripped and painted the rear frame area and rebuilt the rear springs. I am now in the middle of cleaning up the rear axle and will rebuild/repaint as needed.

More pictures will be coming soon.

It sure feels good to be back making progress on this!

Now I think I can keep everything together in one topic instead of two or more...

Continuing with more pictures, once I remember how to do that again.

Congratulations on retirement...you will find your interest in finishing re awakened! Looks like you already figured that out.

Here are a few new / updated project pictures...

Finally got the rear frame cleaned up and repainted, along with new bushings and liners in the springs.

Also cleaned up and repainted the rear axle assembly.

Next step is to put new brakes onto the rear axle, then the back end is completed to this point...

Some questions based on these photos...

First, what prep and then what type of seam sealer/filler is recommended for the seam around the top of the cab?

Second, I finally gotten all the road grime/grease/etc cleaned off of the bottom of the bed, and now I think I am seeing the original factory primer red along with the caribbean turquoise overspray. Is this a common thing?

I am not going to be able to tell which caulk to use on that seam, but holey cow your truck is cleaning up nice. I have never even seen a box floor that solid once cleaned...

I didn't use any seam sealer on my cab. I chose to keep the stock look. Your truck looks like a good rust free truck. Like you I too had a rust fee bed.

The seam on the cab of my white truck is completely gone as well. I can see daylight through it at several points. Need to get it sealed back up to keep the rain out. Following to learn what kind of sealer to use.

3M Seam sealer. does just what the name says. I think it may come in some different viscosities, for slightly different applications.

I used a stiff wire brush on a drill to get the old sealer out. Then applied the 3M sealer after priming the bare metal. Used the caulking gun sealer to fill and cleaned it up with a finger swipe.

Is that self etching primer that you used?
