'66 Instrument Cluster Round Red and Green Plastic Lenses
Anyone know of a source, original or not for these pieces. I'd also like to split my turn signal indicator to a left and right, any ideas as to how to do this?

These 1957 Chevy turn signal indicator lenses are about the size of a dime....
They are thin (like a negative or 35MM slide/film).....
and they are readily available and inexpensive.

I like the idea of splitting the signals in your dash to left and right. You have a great idea, but between us, we have no solution.
Start pulling new wires!!

You will need a plastic socket that will not ground to dash as yours is now. 1 wire to the left signal, the other wire from the right signal. When signal is turned on power will go to the bulb and ground is found thru the oposing light circuit that is 'cold' or off, and visa versa for the other side. That should take care of that.
You should be able to test this with a testlight, pull both sockets, pull bulbs, pull wire thru socket, attach one end of your test light to one wire and the other end to the other wire. Turn on your left light then try your right, you should be good to go.
***** if you have hazzards and turn them on with this setup they will NOT indicate as there is no cold side when all lamps are on.

Steve your just putting the bulbs in series. They will both light at 6V each.
You can however add a diode across each bulb so that the current flows through the diode instead of the second bulb. That would let the front and rear turn bulbs provide the ground.
If you have a left and right wire then why wouldn't you just run the bulbs to ground?
Jeff

I used colored 12v. LED's.
They don't burn out.
Here is the original inst. panel insert. Note the location for the turn and high beam lights. Doh. It's upside down. High beam at the bottom of the picture................................................

I cut a plastic blank to cover the old instruments and drilled the holes for the high, right and left lights in their original positions. The hole was the same size as the LED so I got a press fit.

Blue high beam, red left turn, green right turn.

Here is the wiring...high beam at the top.

Just a thought.

NO No No, If I think what he's looking for- to change from 2 lights to 1 like on the later cc dashes used one of the blinker spot and used it for Hi Beam.Tech wrote:Steve your just putting the bulbs in series. They will both light at 6V each.

That's how I thought he was looking to do.
Did this to one of our firetrucks a couple of years ago with a huge light on dash, not grounded and 1 wire to L, 1 wire to R, nobody forgot to cancel them out again.

The standard IP has a left and a right green turn signal indicator and a red high beam indicator. The custom cab IP has a single green turn signal indicator and a red high beam indicator. If you want to have a left green turn signal indicator and a separate right green turn signal indicator then just get the two sockets from a standard IP and add a third hole for the high beam indicator.
Some people cut the red and green lens from plastic bottles.
The factory used an ivory colored masking tape to hold the lens in place, if you use a clear tape the light will be much brighter.

The Standard cab had a left and right blinker light on the speedometer.
If I am remembering correctly.
Found this from Blackwater Forge this was what I was trying to explain. You're using the cold side as 'ground' with signals on, I'm almost sure your indicator will flash alternately of what is on outside.
