New project - 65 Mercury Gasser

Post by turtle1056 »

Well I am now well into my second slick project.

Two years ago i bought a 65 Merc from a guy who put it on a 91 F150 chassis complete with all wiring motor etc.

They never did get it to work or run properly, and you can see by the photos that the chassis did NOT fit the truck well as the wheels are stuck to either ends of the truck wheel wells

As i get further into the project it was obvious they had good intentions but no knowledge to take on such a project.

So the decision was made to rebuild the truck in a manner that would allow use of the chassis and yet look good when done

The gasser style seem to fit the bill.

So we decided to lift it, 6" and do it totally old skool period perfect 60s gasser style.

You wont find anything for parts on this truck except the frame that couldn't be had back in the day.

So whitewall slicks, skinney whitewalls for the front, gasser tank, ladder bars, blower motor etc.

Hopefully with photobucket I can post pics.

We have found several things maybe useful to other slick owners like our brake lite switch mount - extremely simple to do and mount in any truck using a 70s brake switch.

Some of our members are quite fond of yellow.

Others not so much.

Ebay - it had a broken wire connector, which was an easy replace from the highway 15 setup.

I paid less than $200 shipped to my door in Ontario Canada from California

Pretty solid looking slick. Looks like a nasty combination of power and truck about to come together.

chevy ford ... when it comes to parts - meaning the reproduction stuff like Cal Custom covers pans breathers etc - they dont make anything even close for the Ford motors, and I bleed BLUE dont ever worry.

But I am also realistic

The cost for my chebbie blower motor was under 5k where as the same in a sbf say a 302, woulda been 10k +

I am hopin to finish this entire build for under 10k including the purchase of the truck, and so far I amright there on budget.
