A couple of weeks ago my oldest son and I drove 750 kilometers(470 miles) one way to pick up a parts truck. Plus, got to meet a club member in person for the first time. Mark(hoofbeat). Plus I got the pleasure of laying my eyes on an absolutely gorgeous 66 ford ranger(the very first ranger I've seen in person) If he gets a chance to bring that thing to slick stock, you guys and gals are in for a treat! Anyway the purpose for are trip was to bring home the 66 merc he sold me. After bringing this thing home(940 miles in one day) I cant decide which one to build and which one to use for parts! Half tempted to find another one for parts for these two! Asolutely flawless merc badging, side trim, grille, merc hubcaps, Front bumper(little rusty), six cylender that runs like a charm. But, the body is rotten. Sure seems a shame to strip it for parts though. Whats a fellow to do. I'm sure there is lot of you out there that have bought trucks for parts, and couldn't bring yourselves to strippin' em.

That's a tough call! I'd be inclined to try to restore both. I don't thing I'd do well with a 'donor' truck!

I say drive em both and let THEM tell ya which is worthy of resto...imo don't buy any more trucks, stick do doin one at a time, wish I had learned that years ago...Are you better at bodywork or better at mechanics?Do you have to have a v-8?

blue one already has the trim and has a better grill. Not so sure about that inner fender though. Now if you decide to part out the green one, I would say you need to be shot. That doesn't really look like a parts truck to me. Go buy a good $100 tarp or park it in the corner of the shop till you get done with the blue one.

Tough choice that would have been a LOT easier if one was a Ford. Better save the tag off the one you decide to sacrifice anyway.

Can do both bodywork and wrenchin'. Wheather or not I'm any good at either remains to be seen. We'll see when the 58 is done. I did absolutely everything on it(except spray topcoat on the exterior, I just dont have a proper booth to get the best results). As for a V-8, there is no shortage of FE's around here, but I think that six is kinda cool in its own way!
Mark was kinda hinting at me not to use it for parts, so I'm kinda detecting a pattern here.

What have I done???? I sold my beloved Mercury cry.gif

Just kidding, glad it went to a good home. Don't be scared to strip it John. Just make sure that 300 gets tucked away somewhere dry. Never know when I might have to buy it back. Besides, wait until everyone sees what is going to fill the parking space in a few weeks.....

Bought a 66 F100 with 352 3 speed off of ebay for $355.00 delivered. Truck drove better than ANY vehicle I have ever owned. I bought it for parts for my 65 F100 but it was such an amazing truck, I couldn't part it out. It had a stack of receipts in the glove box that included everything from lifetime warranty mufflers to new leaf and coil springs. Literally, the only parts taht had not been replaced or rebuilt was the sheet metal and the lower half of the engine. I drove it for over four years with only a battery, tires and a radiator hose. Got $1900 for it and wish I never sold it!
