Newbie = dumb question

The place to talk Slicks. All we ask is that discussion has something to do with slicks...

Newbie = dumb question

Brand new to the board, and about to start my first '62 uni project. Time to ask a dumb question. Why are they refered to as "Slicks"? Happy New Year !

Some years of Ford trucks have a bump running along the side, they are called bumpsides. The Dentsides have a dent on the sides. The Slicks don't have the bump or the dent, maybe some nice chrome trim.

I heard it as;
in late 1960 when the first Unis hit the lots sitting right next to the 1960's on the Ford lots of people said;
"Those are real Slick looking" - name stuck. Also heard same basic story but it was a member of the automotive press said it.
I know some people who are not on the board or never been here also call them Slicks.
1964 F 100 - I am going to do "something" with it.......
