Gas mileage improvements
As the gas prices keep going up and up. If anyone has any tips that you have tried and worked for better fuel mileage please list them and what engine etc. If anything didn't work please tell about it also. Thanks because I sure getting tired of being ripped off by the oil Industry.

Get one of these and put an S-10 T5 behind it. The S-10 T5 is only good to 240ft-lbs, but the 223 is not going to have that. There might be more to the swap, but it is a thought. It would get you an OD gear and you would be able to keep the engine at lower RPM.
Doc Pepper is right on. I am doing a 300/T5 (mustang) combo and hope to get 20+ (It is NOT a stock 300

mileage?
My 262-6 - with the 4.10 rear end gets 9-10 mpg. One thing that bothers me is not so much that the mileage is bad - but that the gas isn't getting burned. the exhaust is extremely rich, the carbon buildup is pretty awesome. I have messed with the carb about all I can - not that there is much you can do with a rebuilt one bbl. The idle screw and the float.
I am going to eventually go with a different rear end ratio.

My stock 300 Six with the stock 3 speed trans and a 3.25 rear gear on 15in rubber got about 15mpg going to Pa last Year. i am planning on putting in a 2.75 rear gear to go to Minnesota in a couple of Weeks to see if it gets any better..............kid

It is easier to ask Forgivness than to ask Permission
