Has anyone rebuilt a steering column?
Im pulling the power steering column out of the donor today.
I have no idea what condition it is in since the donor doesnt run.
Im wondering if this is something I can rebuild myself or should I send it out?
I do not want to install the column and find out it needs work, have to pull it out and the truck is off the road while Im getting it rebuilt.
Is there a rebuild "kit" or would I need to order each part?

Re: Steering column rebuild
Steering column are very simple parts and easy to check. There is a bushing aat the bottom with a rubber cup. There should be no play and the rubber should be intact without tears so that moisture cannot enter. The top bearing is a really cheap part that can go bad and the tension on the bearing is via a little spring. Here you check if you can move the steering wheel up and down versus the column. Often it really only needs a heavier spring.

Re: Steering column rebuild
If it is a tilt column there is a lot of info on the www on rebuilding a column and what to check.
