bed modification

I wanted a different look for my bed . I always have noticed that the rear fenders are narrower than the truck cab and I though it would look better if they were the same width . you can get flair side fenders that are 3 inches wider but I didn't want the added expense so I did it my way . I felt that I would not be able to stretch the fenders and make them look good so I widened the bed . I made a new bulkhead and new floor braces to widen the bed 4 inches total . the tailgate was stretched 4 inches as well by making new side end caps and adding tubing to the top and bottom . than I lowered the bed sides until the fenders met the flanged part of the sides (close to 3 inches) keeping the fenders in the correct location . now I am working on the steps to get them in the correct location in relation to the cab .ImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

this picture you can see the tailgate has been stretched but the bedsides have not been lowered yet . this was at Mercury Charlie's in Austin TX. after the Lone Star Roundup in 2011Image

:iagree: That made a world of difference! Body lines are sweet with the bed sides lowered like that. That's one tough and unique truck you've built.

Terry, I just went through your build on your truck. I love it, you have further inspired me to get mine sitting down where it belongs. Very nice work.

Bed looks great Terry, something the factory SHOULD have done.
Curious about what the tail lights came from. Sure look good the way you
sunk them into the rear fenders. TR

Hard to tell for sure in this pic if the lens is exactly the same but the size looks about right...this is a '59 Buick...
