This has nothing to do with the build but today being the 4th of July I thought I would take the day off and practice my Photoshop skills.
I have seen cartoon looking trucks and cars and I wanted to make one. I found a truck on the web and made my first cartoon truck. Still have plenty of learning to do. The truck was a low resolution image so the quality was not so good to start.
Hey...A guy could make money doing this! If I get good I may take some orders!

Well I found a guy 2 miles away that has several 60's F100 4x4's, Unibodies, and 2x4's. Plus a garage full of parts. I needed a front fender and some bed parts so I went to town with the sawzall. Anone looking for some 4x4 complete trucks and cabs let me know.
Got some pieces to widen the tubs. I plan on adding about 2-3 inches to allow for 20x10 or 12's
My goodies on the trailer.
Cut the much needed straight rear cross member. Going to use 80% of the new piece.
The Drivers side of the truck suffered some kind of bump up over the years so a rear bed quarter was acquired also.
Here comes the fun part. The bed is slightly wider than the front by about 1/4 inch total. I put a string on the crossmember which is bent up and found it to be off. Not sure if it is this outer fascia or the whole cross member.

This is the middle.
Looking very seriously about putting a wood floor down. Just weighing out the options.

Very cool work on the Jag IFS. Pretty big bummer you are putting a SBC in a truck that looks like it deserves the glory of a Ford power plant, but at least you've justified not going the Crown Vic front end direction.

I hope someone out there with a 65-66 style side bed can help me. I need to know if all the frame mounting points are on the same plane. If you put a straight edge from the rear mount to the from mount. I have two cross members that are rusted out. Not sure where they are supposed to be.
So I am replacing the rear crossmember. I cut the spot welds on the rear mount and cut the rear hoping to remove the mount easier.

Decided to take the plunge and add 2 1/2 inched to the wheel tub. I marked the tub about center and cut.
I marked the bed support and cut 2 1/2 inches out of both supports. This was the most I can add with the springs. Any more than 2 1/2 " with the stock springs would be worthless. This was the most I can add with the springs.

The donor wheel tub top will be welded in and the remaining metal will be sheet metal.

So I cut the donor metal 2 1/2 inches and had some left over. This piece was used underneath to align the patch.
Scrap metal supporting the donor steel.
Using a jack I supported the inside of the tub and tacked the top.

Looking good . I may have to widen the tubs on my uni will find out when I get the crownvic under it and the 295-50-15's .

Sounds like a good size tire. I work at a custom wheel shop and I would hate not to add some steel to the tubs so I can run 20 x 10's or 20x12's . I was looking at the bad shape of the wheel tubs. I wonder if you can by just the wheel tub and just make one cut. Does anyone know if the 67 up tubs are the same? I know that it attaches to the bed differently.rickairmedic wrote:Looking good . New tubs showed up today. They say they are for the 66-67 Bronco and F100. The tubs are really designed for the Bronco because they have the small cutout for the shocks. We can fix that. Now I will have clean tubs with one cut.

Wheel Tub Re-Do
Got the tubs in From Toms' Bronco Parts way out on the west coast. If I was putting in a wood bed I thought I better use a tub that was not beat up from years of hauling.
Trimmed off the inner lip.
I made the initial cut at 4 1/2 inches for the first try at the original tubs. With the trimmed off edge it put me at 4 3/4 over the original wheel house. This left me with a 14 3/4 tub!
The tops will have to be fixed where the 2 grooves are. I will either have to add the groves to the new tubs or take out the grooves from the old section. There is a 1-2 " flat spot to groove transition.

Steering Column Goes In
I recently purchased a Chinese Tilt Column I know... I did a post in Truck Talk viewtopic.php?f=1&t=30812 to describe the whole deal.
Here are just a short couple of pictures of a brand new inside of a Chinese Tilt column. Broke! Never installed.
Needless to say I just used it for a mock up and getting a US Tilt.
I decided to take the original mount location and fill it in. First step is to cut out most of the holes.
I positioned the column and made a template. I then cut the metal and added a section of the old Ford column for the bottom support.
I drilled three holes and using the box nuts from the column mount I welded them on place. This will center and hold the new 2" column.
This pic was taken before I finished welding from the inside as well.

No. I will have plenty of room for the tires I want. Since I was in this deep with the bed I wanted to give myself as much room as I could. The springs are actually the only thing that will be in the way. In the future I could put in a 4 link and have plenty of tub for even bigger.Do you plan to narrow the rear frame rails?
Right now adding any more than 2 1/2 inches is overkill because of the springs but you never know down the road!

Will the new 14 3/4" wheel tub put you inside the frame rail? I'm just asking because if you trim another inch or so off the new wheel house you wouldn't have to mess with fabbing up the groove transition....Project66 wrote:No. I will have plenty of room for the tires I want.
