Does anyone know where i can buy a new vin tag for the door of my truck. I let a friend haul off some scrap metal and he took my driver door (which had been butchered for patch material) to the scrap yard.

Just a bit of trivia, a door tag is not a VIN tag, it is a warranty tag. 68 was the first year that Ford put VIN tags on trucks and even then not all of them got a tag for some reason. The door tag was for warranty information for dealers which is why they are not welded on or secured with tamper proof rivets like a VIN tag. Hawkrod

But they are somewhat unique rivets though.

So leagaly I don't need one? I was just thinking that I was screwed if my vin didn't match the door tag.

i dont have one. title matches the vin stamped on the frame. the truck i got the frame from got hit hard in the drivers cab corner and must have came off then.

Back in the day in Texas, it was hard to find a new car dealer who would take a truck in trade without the tag, and it certainly STILL makes it easier when trying to title and register an out of state truck.

i have been told that Missouri relies on that door tag to verify # on inspection and that is required to get a title. is that true Chris?

i was a bit worried about this when i moved due to the requirements of needing my truck to be inspected to get new paperwork but in the end the frame vin was acceptable (i made sure it was clean and visible and told them where it was).
