Cab weight

Post by lo6fo »

Anyone have a close estimate to what a bare cab of a 64 f100 weights? I'm looking to move one soon and need to know what kind of equipment I'm gonna need

You will need at least 3 freinds who can lift at least 75 pounds :D. I have no idea how heavy they are but I know thats the most common way to move one unless you want to play with a cherry picker and some chain and even then I would want some freinds around to help.

Not sure how much it weighs, but I had to lift mine off by myself. I built a fixture so I could use my engine hoist. Here are some pictures.

I had to put some 50 pound bags of salt in the back corners of the cab to balance it.

Thy're really front heavy, I used my engine hoist on mine too. I bolted to pieces of angle using the seat braket bolts, found the balance point and picked it up, I don't remeber exactly but it was like 14'' fwd of the seat bolt, with the windows out.

I did one the same as trucknut, the mistake I made was having the hoist hook down low to lift, making the centre of gravity high, what you need to do is lift with the hook up high like Frank did, that will lower the CG! and make it more stable. a bare cab took 3 of us to lift it off a truck.........
Honey, If I say I`ll fix something I will, there`s no need to remind me every 6 months!!

I'll have to remember that Alan, I did pick it up low and it was a PIA, but did it with no help. I have to swap a cab shortly on my new project. Maybe I should've taken physic's in school, but then again I'm so old now I prob. would've forgotten it anyhow.

Clever bunch aye! I used chain and an engine hoist. Real PITA. The wood deal (i'd use 4x4) seems the most reasonable and safest. IMHO!
