SLOT CAR TRACK ON SITE !! for SS6

Now I am not sure how much and when.. But I built a new routed wood slot car track this winter with the intention of bringing it to Slickstock 6 !

So if you want to think about getting a car to run it has to be a CARRERA DIGITAL 132 car. I highly recommend getting one of the COT stock cars as they work well, and are tough. We have run many of the other cars Carrera sells and they are iffy at best.

It is possible to solder a 20 dollar computer chip into about any slot car however.

Now the reason the digital is worth the hassle is this. You can run SIX cars at the same time ! And there are lane change switchs you can throw from the hand held controller.now the track is routed three lanes but it actually one long lane that shuffles you thru bottom, middle, high, then back to the bottom. This makes the guy on the outside cross two lanes of traffic. Now while crashes happen, it is VERY fun when you learn to pass thru the pack and not wreck !

the cars run from 40-50 bucks generally.. Sometimes you can get a deal on ebay.

Here are some sites we buy from..

http://www.fantasyworldhobbies.com/
http://www.professormotor.com/

revel/monogram made some cool classic stockers, but these have to be chipped (extra 20) and they can be hit and miss on handling out of the box. I will also add you can't run a chipped car on a normal analog track so the chipping needs to be done with a track handy to get the wires correct...

Some of these classic stock cars are ballistic once working well, they are not as tough as the Carrera Stock car drive trains though. Also the rear axle design on the Class monogram type is a little shady and hard to repair.

Lance, the last time I even touched a slot car would have been nearly 50 years ago! WTH is this digital/ computer chip talk? :P Rewinding motors was state of the art back then!
Since I've become somewhat proficient at "chipping and digitizing" 50 year old street vehicles; and given eighteen months to work on it; I might ??? be able to buy something workable. Now if I could just buy some slot racing skills------------.

Its not difficult to chip the car really, you just need the digital track to test if its right, and to see if any wires are backwards. Also if you want to use the lane changer there is a small led that must show thru the bottom of the cars at the right location to the left of the slot.

however the Carrera digital 132 COT is the best bang for the buck.

Lance, I can get Dons trailer and we can set it up on that and that way it will be on a flat surface and everyone can stand around it to watch. Is it longer than 16ft

I think I'm in................
I looked at the COT cars online - they all have modern NASCAR bodies.
Are there any out there that will work with classic bodies?

Kid the track is about 23 feet long, Greg I think you can make some classic cars fit that chassis, however I know the 67 Fairlanes wheelbase is way off. The late 60's charger bodies are close..
The Fairlanes need the Carrera chip, and about 20 minutes (once you know how) work to put them in right.
Unfortunately there are no classic Carreras that work well. they have an old junk chassis under all of them. I did manage to put a superbird body down on a Carrera COT chassis, but it took many mods to make it happen.

That car will need a special Carrera chip soldered into the car to work...

Nice track! Too bad all my cars are pre digital. And chipping them would probably not let me use them on my track. Might just have to pick up a new digital car to try out.

Looks like fun!

Same deal with my stuff I have left over from the last time I was racing slot cars.
I was racing in group 15 with Parma brass cars and some custom wire perimeter chassis
with some really hot motors. Wedge bodies with wing kits on them 1/24th scale. They aren't all that big as 1/24th scale goes, really closer to 1/32. I looked at those Carrera COT cars and I
think I would agree they would be the better idea. The old "Superbird" cars are cool and the
"Charger 500" ones look great too. Also liked the Porsche 917s and the others like that from the early 70s Lemans prototypes. Might check here for some of those to see if they are available.
There is a slot track a few miles from me here in town. Would be a cool deal to do some racing
but I am warning you, it is addictive! TR
