fricking mice

Post by Kid »

went to get the T Bird out of the shed and found evidence of mice again. I have tried several things but to no avail.. We put moth balls all around under the vehicles and they are all gone. I tried moth balls inside and the after smell when we took it out was horrible. I tried peppermint extract as I was told it would work, nope. Going to try dryer sheets when I put it back away again this afternoon. I also read that you should not use a cover when inside storage.

The building I store my toys in has a dirt floor and there is moisture. I dont want to have either one with mice smell in them or mice damage to them.

I am open to any and all suggestions

Can't help with the mice (I had them eat the headlight wiring in a Cadillac that kept in a garage and drove every day), but at a minimum I would put some of the 1'X2' concrete pads under the tires. That should help to keep them from deteriorating. Parking vehicles on dirt or grass is never a good idea, but often necessary.

I put the moth balls under the hood and the dryer sheets in the interior. I can't stand the moth ball smell and this method has worked well. Thanks, Lyman.

No problem down here; I think the cockroaches scare them off! I can send a care package if you wish

I use dryer sheets in my Uni and my Falcon convertible and it seems to work fine. In the Falcon I put a couple in the boot (on a sheet of plastic), tuck a couple behind the rear seat backrest, a couple under the rear seat and a couple under the front seat.

In the Uni I put a couple behind the seatback and a couple under the seat.

I park both on top of plastic sheeting on concrete in an unheated garage in the winter.

May be excessive, but no mouse problems since I started this routine, plenty before.

(I'd at least lay a sheet of plastic under your cars in the winter if you're parking them on dirt.)

I'd say, "good call".

I have seen them run down a rabbit (those will also chew up wires etc.).
Mice would be childs play for them.

We put dryer sheets in our camper one time and they made a nice nest out of them, seems we helped them stay warm after a hard day of chewing up the camper, I heard something about putting fox scent around the building to keep them away but I hear a lot of things. Might bring some fox in anyway and they eat mice!

Bounce (only the bounce) dryer sheets work. I put one in each lower section of my floor and the mice stopped coming.

Oh and get a big bullsnake!

I had a girlfriend one time that had mice problems and she asked me how to get rid of them.
I said "just stuff steel wool down their little holes."
She allowed as how that might work but she said; "who's going to hold their little legs?"
Yeah, she was blond, but she had a magnificent rack.

They've about destroyed my pop-up, I just raised it the other day and found a snake skin on the table, I dropped it back down in a hurry. This winter it will be dismantled and scrapped. Like it was said earlier, I tried dryer sheets, they just made a nice little nest out of it.

Was just out at the shop for the first time in a week. Had a nice round nest built on the passenger side floor pan of the uni. They seem to hate carb cleaner. Soaked one I saw and another ran off. Pulled the nest out and soaked everything with carb cleaner. I have no interior so nothing to hurt right now.

I don't have this problem at my home shop, just the one out in the country.

Kid, get a spray bottle of Pine-Sol and spray it around the baseboards of your shop and around the 'bird and see how that works.
Mice and rats hate the smell of pine oil.
