FREE FREIGHT !!!

Post by graybeard »

Any of you Slick Dudes headed for Wilburton, OK this weekend? Robbers Cave always marks the end of the fall rod run season here, it's a small show I'd guess 550 participants. The setting is special for any one who grew up on the Great Plains. The terrain is rough and it's in the pines, on the edge of Oklahoma's Sans Bois Mountains, just a short way from the Talimena Drive. Friday night kicks off just West of WILBURTON on HWY 270 at The House of Packard's hamburger cookout. Saturday's one day show is slow paced and allways enjoyable.

We'll be driving a white '66 SW with nice patina, we always have a extra lawn chair, stop by!

It is a Rod Run with a pre '76 requirement (I believe !)

As always I'll be packing fiberglass headliners.

Sunflower Swapmeet in Wichita, early is our Feb next outing.

It's beginning to look like my work schedule, as well as my son's, is not likely to free up this week. Verdict's not in yet, though! Regardless, if last year is an example, there will be plenty of slicks.
If I don't see you, we'll meet up later. Got plenty to talk about!
I haven't heard as to the number of pre-registrations, but would expect it to bump the record!
BTW, you may confuse some with those listed dates! Just glanced to see if Ark City was the following week and noted the dates.

I May Head Down From Topeka Saturday. By Any Chance Are You Bringing A Headliner For A 64' Without The Console?

Sorry, I don't make but one style, the number of turns just doesn't warrant a new mold. Stop by & sit in my truck see if you think the console is obtrusive.

Like I said before, you don't even really notice the console, but it is really a neat place to mount a CB radio, old style.

It looks better than the '79 did, looks natural. Found a rebuilt power brake booster, a while back, had the brackets for years, it and a new MC are on there now and look correct. New brakes go on, starting in the morning. I'll save the disc for anther time. Headed for Ottawa, KS Sat morning. Three day Ole Marrias River Run, anybody else going? I'm taking one '64/'66 Headliner and one '40/'47 headliner, up there they'll be free freight. Ole Marias Sep 20/22 Ottawa, KS
It would do me good see a couple of other slicks up there.

Like I said FREE FREIGHT there and Arkanansas City , Ks the following weekend for the three day LAST RUN SEP 27TH/29TH

MAJOR CORRECTION ON THE DATES

Man o Man wish I had waited to brag about my column, the rebuilt power booster, and the new master cyl. Fact is the booster was rebuilt, I don't know how long ago, the master cyl has been under my bench I know for five years. Fired old String up in what I thought was neutral, a two foot jump into my '96 150 proved it must have been drive. Hit the brakes nothing there, removed the filler lid to find the reservoir dry. That explains the plume of pretty blue smoke that poured out for just a short while. Having the old inner shift tube shortened tomorrow, by two inches, booster will be back on the shelf, new master cyl can't be that expensive. The silver lining, no damage to either truck & no body saw me!

The console is not a problem. If you need a headliner and no shipping, this is great option.

Turned out the rebuilt power booster had a adjustible booster to MC shaft. Once I realized that it came to me, being rebuilt the rebuilder probably set the adjustment arbitrarily with final adjustment the responsability of the installer, I was correct, adjustment accomplishmed it was fine.
The new rebuilt MC though was siezed up, my local dealer warrantied it. A re-adjustment was needed to correct the steering column also.
Two rod runs, one week apart, total of 515 miles roundtrip no problems. Well one major problem, MPG, it really sucked, 9.6 to Marias doing nearly 70 MPH all the way up, slowed down on return trip. Might have got 10 on round trip to Ark City. With the 600 miles round trip to Pate I've got a K on my new 390, going to start tunning a little, see if I can't improve MPG. before Robbers Cave Run at Wilburton,OK. We've met a a ton of Slick owners, just amazed how many don't drive their trux to the events.
