Any One Running FT Center Dump Manifolds

Post by chris401 »

Looking at other ideas before I notch the frame for my Galaxie shortys. Will the FTs fit the twin I-Beam with no truck modifications?

Edit: Has headers now, yes they flow better. Cast are quieter, reliable and alow for easy maintence, particulary the starter.

I'm guessing here. You have a FE engine and need to notch the frame on the passenger side to install the headers. If you use truck exhaust manifolds for a FE you will not need to notch the frame. Hope this helps.

I have not seen the centerdumps. The two post I read were on 4wd trucks. Got any pictures?

Sounds like I need to mock the up in the 1/2 ton. Ive read on another forum it takes a 3" knotch on passenger side. Did you run the C2 casting?

My oh my, that was in '77, I remember starting the lip curl with a big pipe wrench, working it slowly with a lead faced hammer. Is that flange really 3" wide? I'll check that out. The shorties then were about $40.00!

Irl, I hope he's talking about length, not width. That would be a hell of a curl :P

Your probably right, seemed like I only went about half the width of the flange, four five inches front to back! Don't think any strength was lost at all.

As for price I wish they were at $40. I bought these from a wrecked 77. I didnt pull or see them though.

The pickup C5TE and passenger car C8AE log manifolds are 1 7/8" from head to outer edge of manifold. They were a big improvement over the 58 logs. Don't know the volume but yours look to be about 2 1/4" to 2 1/2" thick. Looks like the size and design of your center dumps would let engine breath well.
Thanks for the pictures.

are you using FE heads as opposed to FT heads? I haven't looked for a while but doesn't the FT header have the heat riser provision in the center of the manifold? did you get them to seal up good? I have at least one set of those FT exhaust manifolds and may have to dig them out and use them on the next build. definitely cheaper than headers and if they seal they will require lots less maintenance. thanks.

If, you decide your not going touse the shorty headers, do you want to sell those? If so, how much?
