Possibly purchasing a "bench" seat this afternoon. If it is the right length I will swap the bucket seats out. Anyone interested in a great set of Black Leather bucket seats in very good condition, let me know...I will make you a great deal on them.
This is what I am looking at...very similar to what I have...

Seats are purchased. Spending the first part of the week at my daughter and son-in-laws home. Will be home later this week and hoping to get these installed. It is a 60-40 split type bench/bucket seat the exact same width as the buckets that are in there already.

Stay tuned.....

(Also...seats for sale)

What is the split bench out of? Not the old Firebird sitting behind it.

It was advertised as the back seat from an Envoy or Trailblazer. It is the perfect width for my '64.

I began with the passenger seat. Sat it in to establish proper height and get it level before building mounting brackets.

Cut and welded up some brackets for the seat

Then I added the drivers side...

Welded up some bracket for the driver's side and just had time to bolt the passenger seat down. I'll try to get back to the drivers seat in the next day or so. They do look good and sit excellent. Better than the other bucket seats even....

Stay tuned....

Thanks! I'm still "tweaking" them. The passenger seat sits perfect, but somehow I have the drivers seat an inch to high on one side. I drove it yesterday and it didn't fell right. I kept sliding toward the door....lol.

Well...I finalized the drivers seat and it sits just as I want. Now the problem is the steering wheel. At least in my opinion, and I am the one that will be driving. It seems too close. I think that I have the seat mounted a few inches higher than the other buckets. So....I took the bracket that holds the steering wheel to the dash and shortened it about an inch. This raised the wheel up and gave much more room but now it seems to high. Insert long sigh here...lol. It's a matter of tweaking everything...it's a process. I will go out tomorrow and lower the bracket just a little, as it has elongated holes in it to be able to move the column up a down a little bit. I will get it figured out. I did check the price of tilt steering columns and I'm still shaking from sticker shock, lol. I knew they were $$$...but a tube with a shaft inside...well there is a lot of "design" that goes into those things. Anyway....maybe Christmas next year.

Stay tuned....

i have a friend that has 72 f100 that he used explorer bucket seats.he put a hydraulic clutch and 5 spd out of a 2wd early 90s f150.first the pedal sat too high so he changed it and then he changed seats to explorer buckets then the column was too close.he got so tired of moving things around he hardly drives it anymore.dont fall into that trap,it takes all the fun out of a project.

I agree....Good advice! I love driving mine. In fact I prefer to drive it instead of our "other" vehicle. I think that it just needs minor "tweaking" to get it where I want it. That's part of the fun as far as I am concerned...tinkering on it.

Looks good. How is the steering wheel with the horn ring so close to it?
We've got over half a foot of snow so far and maybe another foot to come.

For the most part the steering wheel and horn work well. We have more ice than anything...just received an inch of snow on top of that.

Thanks again to Doug who supplied me with a 3.10 chunk for my 9" rear. I'm waiting for a pinion seal, get it installed and see how it drives.
