Steve and Randall, thanks for the U bolt help. I am going to take my U bolts to a machine shop today and see if they can cut the old threads off and thread the blank part of the U bolt about an inch and a half up. That will give me the right amount of length.
Spark, when I bought the truck, the PO gave me the original Uni doors and a set of perfect standard doors, which I am selling. The Uni doors need some work, but I want to keep the body line. Good eye!
I tried oreillys, kragen, autozone, car quest, truck businesses, offroad shops, HotRod shops, metal fabricators, RV trailer shops, machinists, and finally ordered them from General spring in Kansas City. Should be here next week.
Started to work on my passenger door, grinding off all the old paint, mostly bondo! Then a lot of hammer and dolly work. I also have to make a patch panel for the lower front of the door.
I feel your pain. My truck was like that. I still have to strip the passenger door down and I know that it is full of bondo. And I think I have the same problem in the front lower corner. Post pics of your progress and repair...
Trying to decide between rims, rocket racing "strike" or torq thrust originals. The tocket racing one comes with cast or polished finish.. My third option would be cragars . Any input would be appreciated !
Cragars on the back, 17x9 with 275/40/17. I know they're only on the rear, they were left over from my Mustang, and I can't afford matching right now.....
62 short-uni, cv front swap, 4.6/auto plus many other's!
Thanks 390fastback, I am leaning towards the rocket racing wheels, with the cast center. Then will paint the grill to match, with a grey interior... So many decisions! So many dreams, but one step at a time
I get it! theres still a list a mile long for mine, plus the other 4 projects on the go! I've decided the body is getting done on this thing, the interior will get more 'comfort' features, and the engine, rear, etc......... never ends!!

Got the truck lowered by taking out the bottom two springs in the front and two of the rear springs from each rear spring pack. I got new rear u bolts and put spacers in the front axel u bolts to take up the slack from the extra length of the U bolts from the removed leaf springs. Steel pilot bushings work perfect for this by the way. I put my pie crust slicks with cragars on the back from my racecar and wil be putting small cragars on the front. I'll pull it out and take an overall picture tomorrow maybe
Mike...have you looked at "Dave's 61 Uni Shortbed Build" on here? If not, go and check it out, it will give you some inspiration. I love what he did with his.
One step closer to my t5 conversion, found a 3 speed bellhousing here locally for $75! I am pretty excited because it seems like these can be hard to find
My '57 and my '66 had the torque thrusts on them. Really like the looks of them but it's almost been overdone lately.
I think slots always look good on a unibody. American is reproducing the Ansen Sprints now.
The Cragars always look good.
The strikes are different and you don't see them nearly as much.
Keep up the great work. SPark

Is your Fairlane a sedan or hardtop? I shop for a 2 door sedan every time I project shop. Always wanted one but could never find the right one for what I wanted to do.
Enjoy your new project, SPark
