gas tanks again..

Post by Anthony »

I am researching gas tanks and I know the mustang is popular but the filler is in the bed.. what else is out there that would move the filler out of the bed? a door in the bedside?? that would be fine.. I like Kevins tail light but too much for me.. lol come on guys, throw me some ideas..

I mounted a 40 gallon tank inside a flush mount tool box in the bed. Gas, room for as and easy to fill and lock.

Why not just use an outside frame setup as per the later trucks? I have put the filler bracketed inside the wheel well, but I don't have to contend with that white stuff, nor filling a muddy truck!

Anthony I put a 49-52 Chevy tank from Tanks Inc. It will fit between the frame rails and the fill is on the drivers side. I got the idea from this forum but I tried searching for it and could not find it. Dave

Now that I have changed the bed of my truck, I too was considering changing the gas tank to a rear mounted one. saw this set up and thought it could work.(Cease Fire- I know its chevy- but its a good reference)

You can see the bed going back on with a slight modification to allow for the fill neck.

A 67 - 72 with auxiliary tanks will fit between drive shaft and frame. Won't be able to install my own until I have the dual exhaust rerouted.

One quick comment regarding the 67-72 auxiliary tank option - it will conflict with the park brake cable lever(at least on 65-66, not sure about 61-64)). I started down that path and am still working through that. My truck is a manual so i want to maintain the park brake.

An 84-94 Bronco 2 used a 23 gallon side fill tank. I have one I plan
to use on my 64 and use a side fill door or wheelwell filler with it.
