drive shaft length after leaf spring replacement

Conducting a frame-off resto on my '61 stepside. After replacing the leaf springs, had to put a lot of down pressure on frame to get new shocks to bolt in. In trying to re-install the original drive shaft, the length is several inches too short even after extending the shaft from the universal joint knuckle. Will the weight of the cab and bed fix this issue when they are reinstalled?

Measure the wheelbase, sounds like spring are in backwards.

Sounds like Johnny probably hit it on the head :iagree:
The axle should be directly under the bump stops

Thanks so much. Yep, it appears rear leaf springs are backwards. As you can tell, I have never even restored a bicycle. But I am stubborn, so hopefully someday it will be driveable. Will try to post some pics someday soon.
