Why a 312, and not a 292? Several problems with 312 blocks, many being cracked as people re-installed main bearing bolts and cracked the flange the bolt goes in to. If, you get a 312 block and rebuild it, be sure to clean out the main bearing bolt holes thoroughly when you do reassembly.
