Converting 65 Or 66 Long Wheel Base To A Short Wheel Base.

Post by chris401 »

I picked up what is supposed to be a 66 Camper Special F-100 chassis as a donor for my 65 F-100 short bed. I saw a man do a 68 F-100 long to short, seemed simple enough. Anyone have the conversion documented here?
Thanks
Chris

here below is a truck that was started as a long bed, top awards and the many years ago the builder called us on where to drill holes in the frame etc.. so if doing it look for a short bed frame rails to get all the measurements needed and save cross members so they might need to be moved forward, also wheelbase from front to rear and also crossed as a X as well need to be exact numbers

I started with a '66 Camper Special and I'm building a short bed 4x4. I'm still in the building process but there are some photos here you can look at. viewtopic.php?f=32&t=37749

Fordification also has some great info on factory chassis and body dimensions, worth taking a look at the site. http://www.fordification.info/tech/imag ... Page04.jpg

Is the Fordification drawing an official Ford document? Very detailed.

Thanks that is the information I have been looking for. Looking at the tire chart http://www.fordification.info/tech/imag ... 100swb.jpg I think my truck would have had the 16 X 6.5 - 6 tube tire. Looks the 7.28" Section Diameter, 14.40" Loaded Radius plus half the rim diameter 8" reflect = 7.28+14.40+8 for a 29.68" tall tire. Does that tire height look correct for a 1965 F-250 with HD springs with helper springs?

Be careful on the Fordification frame swap info! It contradicts both Keith's Ford-sourced prints and those found in reputable frame manuals.
