Info wanted on diesel swap

Post by mongrot »

I'm looking onto putting a 242 diesel out of a Ford 6000 tractor into a '62 f100 (I've heard the tractors use the 262 straight 6 gas engines and are a direct bolt in). I know it's been done before but just wondered about the bellhousing pattern. Is the 242 diesel the same as a 215/223/262 pattern or is it an SAE pattern that would require an adapter? If it's the SAE pattern, which one is it and what 4 or 5 speed trans can I use? Thanks

By the way, I don't care about top speed or if the truck ever leaves the farm, I just need it to pull stuff.

Sounds like a neat project
Looks like if they ran the 223/262 gas
The diesel would run the same pattern

Sure be a neat powerplant with a small turbo
Good torque & fuel mileage my guess

Sounds like Ford just converted the 223/262 block into a diesel engine. Sounds like it would work and be a pretty neat build.
