"63 F250 4x4 engine replacement

Post by jp634x4 »

I have a 63 f250 4x4 with a 292y, 4 speed manual, that dumped the antifreeze into the crankcase. I am debating on going back with another 292Y block or going with a 302 or 351.
First is it a big deal to swap engines as this is a manual trans.
Also this truck is pretty much original with 80,000 miles so opinions on what to go with is also appreciated.

I like original stuff
I know it takes money ....
But a good quality rebuilt 292 will last you a l.o.n.g. time....
Just a few upgrades like a dual exhaust & pertronix ignition
Will make it healthy

Unless you are planning other changes from stock I think I'd stick with the 292.

Thanks for the input. No I don't plan on a lot of changes, well maybe brakes that work, but I like the the way they built these trucks, plus I learned to drive in one just like it.
So it looks like I may be looking for another 292 if I find to much damage or a crack in the one I have.

Thanks Guys :)

I will probably be asking more later on brakes and box repair.
