Slick 60's

Hi. It looks like I've run into a temporary problem on my 1965 F100 4wd project. State (NH) wont let it pass inspection unless I have a working parking brake I researched the 8 lug rear axle that was installed on this F100 and it appears to be a Dana 60 (C 30255) and the backing plates and brakes don't allow for parking brake cables.

So, I'm trying to find a 1961-72 3.50 rear axle for this F100 and don't know the axle ratio or, where there may be a boneyard that has a 4WD F100-- Slick . Can someone recommend a place or parts supplier that may help me find one of these? or specializes in F100 trucks? I appreciate the help. Don't know what my other options are regarding a parking brake.

BTW? what is the general opinion about the Dana 60?

I have seen a parking brake set up that uses a drum on the trans tail shaft? Section 11-2 in the 61 shop manual has a good detail on them.

If you just want to get it passed inspection .....

Google "line lock parking brake"

It's a valve that you plumb into the brake lines
You push on your brake pedal , then shut the valve
This keeps pressure on the brakes

If your system is in good shape , they stay locked

But..... they can bleed off ... and they are definitly not an EMERGENCY brake...

They cost less than a $100.. and installation shouldnt take long

This would probably be the fastest way , until you have time to get the hardware

At least in PA a hydraulic lock will not pass for a parking brake for state inspection. Needs to be a mechanical lock.
As for a rear axle for your 4x4, it does not need to come from a 4x4 truck, it just needs to have the same gear ratio. For a temporary fix you could even use a different ratio and just not use the 4x4, at least you could drive the truck. The rear axle from a newer bumpside F100 should also bolt in.

What about just finding backing plates from a newer truck. That should be a bolt on with the cables & pedal from a parts truck. As long as the axle bolt pattern is the same up to mid 70's will work.
